The announcers don't have any more insight into the call than you or I watching the same clips. They're not rules experts. That said, they're right; most refs would let the hand to hand combat go, but the trip is foul anywhere on the field. As for DOGSO, @KCbus is correct above; the key element is that when you commit the foul you take away a goal scoring opportunity, but when the ref awards a PK you have been given that opportunity back. So if the scoring opportunity has been restored to you, you haven't been denied anything.
Cuchos in the golden boot conversation now.... ....just saw +6600 odds for him and had to throw down on it, lol.
From the MLS write up of all the action from last night: https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/your...date-union-crew-orlando-st-louis-clinch-playo Always great to Piss on the Fire and help them find their face with the bowling ball.
Never. I always went to watch the game rather than cheer, plus the standing room only isn't really feasible with my ankle.
Well, lucky for you there are 3300 places in the Nordecke with a spectacular view of the match, and about a third of those have a seat! But seriously: I'm sorry that it's not dense enough for your taste, Random Person on the Internet Who's Never Been in the Section. I'll let everyone know they need to do better.
I'm wondering if it's a design thing, because even on sell-out matches on weekends, it never looks on screen as packed as I would think 3300 people would look. Maybe it's the inconsistent clothing coloring not presenting a "solid mass" or something. I dunno - it's not a shot at you and the fans, I'm just surprised it looks the way it does with that many people there. Maybe it's the bannisters making it look less like one giant mass of fans?
In your picture, I am always standing just to the left of the Nordecke center entrance about 3 rows up. It is usually more packed below the center handicap seating row but there isn't usually much room on the upper section, either. If there is ever any actual room it's in the far upper corners.
Random thought: If a soccer team ever tried to go with an ultra-tough Raideresque identity, a dog named DOGSO would be a great idea for a mascot.
Your above photo was taken well before the match started. Many people who ended up in the Nordecke for the match were down below in the Nordecke Beer Garden when this was taken. It was much more densely packed during the match. Here are some shots I have taken this season just before kickoff.
@DrunkandDisorderly and @zman31 ...it was with Bovada....if youre comfortable with them being foreign/offshore/whatever. ...they still have it at the same odds.
As someone who was with whatever the hell passed as supporter groups in 1998, I'll never get tired of looking at photos like this. On a good day, we might have had 15 people. On a bad day? 3-4. It also makes me a bit sad to realize we've lost fans... people who could still very much come to games, but deliberately choose not to. Oh well. Their loss.
I didn’t want to jinx myself or have cybrsldr blame for a loss but I bet on the Crew beating the fire in a 2 team parlay with Miami. I absolutely will not bet on the Dallas match up
Damn. Yeah I got Crew taking MLS Cup, at +3300 and Cucho for the Boot at +6600. Would love to see both of them hit. I could take a month off of work, haha.
Although I was never actively in a supporters group on game day, I was always a member of Crew Union and stood in the corner or north end before the stage. It was just more fun for us, as it is now.
I'm sure @DrunkandDisorderly will be content to realize that, in a sense, the Nordecke is kind-of-not-really V-Army. V-Army became Crew Supporters Union: Local 103. The way that I always pictured it was when a restaurant has a new name, new location and new management, but the same menu, atmosphere, customers and employees. In a sense, it's very much the same. There was a deli near me that was part of national chain. The manager spun it off into his own place with very much the same menu and some new creations. That long CSU:103 name was eventually shortened to Crew Union. Because reasons, Crew Union took over the business side of the Nordecke. As it was explained to me, the official business name of the Nordecke is "dba." A post on the Crew Union Facebook page explains everything. Sure, it takes a bit of a stretch, but V-Army sort of survives today. But how many of us remember Gusset Hunters? And no, @Bill Archer ...I don't think that was Eggy, as the long-standing rumor goes. The OG group was a group called Wrecking Crew. They were down near the visitor's tunnel area and then moved to 134 in now-HCS. They actually had a decent group, but haven't been seen at all since their remaining two guys made a return for the 5th anniversary game.
Would just like to report that has become may favorite thread on all of BigSoccer. Also, did anyone notice another clear foul in the box (after we already had 2 PKs ... think it was Matan getting trucked) where the Center just turned away, no players argued for a call, no fans were upset? Almost as if everyone already knew the "Mercy Rule" was in effect and everyone just wanted to get to full time and go home.
