@Saeta Rubia with the high quality comps today Ferland Mendy is one of those that make you feel confident and eager for the future
Real Madrid did not allow Ferland Mendy to join the France NT during for the international break due to muscular problems. That might also be the reason why Marcelo started ahead of him against Valencia on Sunday. pic.twitter.com/CqooSE77g7— Daily Madrid (@DailyMadridcom) November 10, 2020
Now look back at the past days of the insults rained on Zidane for not starting Mendy. He didn't even have a choice.
He had a choice of keeping Theo, Hakimi and Reguillon, maybe they could have helped out. He chose Marcelo and spending 50ME.
Keeping Marcelo vs sending Reguillon away was a mistake where you didn't need 20/20 vision to see it right away. Reguillon was already performing better than Marcelo before he left, let alone now. And I imagine he'd be here at a much lower salary as well. At the same time I can understand trying to push out Marcelo, who is important within the squad (in morale and as a leader) and has given this team years of great play, is not such a great look imo. Even I wouldn't want the club to actively get rid of him (i.e. kick him out) because he has been a likeable persona throughout his time here honestly. I'd rather that decision came from Marcelo himself, which is why I hoped the Juve rumors were true. But if he can't see that he's not up to par anymore, then the club needs to have a talk with him. Because pretending he's still the same player as 5 years ago is not helping the team.
Zizou definitely wanted to allow Marcelo some room to choose when to leave. It’s backfired as we can see, should’ve asked him to leave this summer but the pandemic probably changed the club’s plans like everyone else’s. Hopefully we find a way to bring Reguilon back, the kid can play.
Him saying that he didn't get to talk with Zidane is in strong contrast with Zidane allegedly talking with Brahim all the time. We sold him for 30 mil. We have a buyback clause for an additional 17 mil. Euro in 2021 and 2022 (so 47 mil. in total). He has to agree to return, which didn't sound very likely. I think he'll have to be stupid to want to replace starting spot in the Premier League and the national team with bench spot in Madrid and slow but steady disappearance from international calls. This one's gone for good, not that i see us spending 50 mil. on Mendy plus 47 mil. on bringing back Reguilon a summer later.
17 mil. Euro on top of the initial transfer clause so 47 mil. Euro in total. Seems super unlikely to spend 97 mil. on two fullbacks in between a single season.
I'd rather management prioritize Alaba right now anyway. He covers so many positions Reguilon might not be needed urgently. Ideally Mendy was never needed in the first place but whats done is done now.
I agree, but it would be great to have him and Mendy as our LB's. That's highly unrealistic though. I just don't see him coming back to be a sub or share a starting spot when he's having a great time in PL.
Speaking French is essential to Zidane, playing in multiple positions won't matter to a coach who simply won't play some players regardless.
I wonder what does that mean exactly, i'd love to know how they make the determination about who is essential considering some of the players still on our squad, or is this all about economics
