Until proven otherwise, on balance I don't see much to split their levels of quality/skill. For shitzengigles I'd like to see some kind of EA FIFA/Football Manager/other attribute metric comparison for 2007 Blanco & 2022 Shaqiri. My guess is there is a lot of correlation.
It includes the Shaqiri attributes from a couple of years ago, but this comparison is the best I could come up with. Shaqiri has a bit of an edge in ball skills & shooting (surprise), Blanco in passing (surprise). Blanco should win every intangible comparison. Discuss.
how far down this list is Shaqiri? The latest @MLS ratings refresh has landed in #FIFA23! @TorontoFC's @Lor_Insigne takes the crown as the highest-rated #MLS player with an OVR of 83 👑! pic.twitter.com/LxqjOyhlAm— EA SPORTS FC Data Collective (@EASPORTSFCDC) January 3, 2023
Lol. All you see in the comments are people complaining about everyone that was missed or is too low. How is that rating even compiled? I’m sure you have no idea. But Shaqiri sure proved in the World Cup that he can play if a coach knows how to use him and he has some complimentary players.
Found him…number 168 https://www.kickalgor.com/2022/12/28/fifa-world-cup-2022-players-impact-ranking/ I wonder if anyone above him makes less than 8mil?
That 6-1 beatdown against Portugal sure didn't help that ranking, but any system that ranks Keysher Fuller (147) above Shaqiri is suspect.
Remember when Tim Howard went from like a 64 with the MetroStars to a 90 as soon as he transferred to ManU? These rankings are always suspect.
Anyone else notice our old, affordable, 6 & 9 are predicted to continue as starters for consistent playoff team (Nashville)? They are the kind of MLS vets that can make or break a team. Herbers did ok for us, but Przybylko clearly did not...beyond that we don't really have more "MLS vets". Granted, their #10 is top 10 in goals, assists and key passes...that would put any team with a decent defense in the playoffs.
what was the deal with dax? i seem to remember him asking to leave cj though is one i'm not gonna get over as long as kacper is around -- an all-around great dude to boot
“The most impactful factor is the player time on pitch during all tournament.“ That seems like a really ridiculous stat to be the main stat to gauge a player.
Really, what does the performance in the World Cup have to do with the "DP quality of our roster"? This is an idiotic, irrelevant, and just plain dumb assessment. What is Torres' rating? less than zero. What was Gimenez' rating? less than zero. Glad he is not a DP anymore. Let's see just how idiotic your post is: Shaqiri (16,701) was virtually tied for FIRST among MLS based players, a few points behind Tolo (16,810) from Seattle. His rating was 16 TIMES (World Cup winning) Almada's ranking. So, according to YOU, Shaqiri must be 16 TIMES better than Almada. So, I guess, but YOUR estimation, Shaqiri, is the GREATEST DP in MLS. His rating is 105 times higher than Aaron Long. His rating was 7 times higher than Swiderski. His rating was higher than Bale. His rating was 4,000 points better than Herrara. Infinitely better than the much more expensive Insigne, since Insigne's rating is zero. Infinitely better than the almost as expensive Bernardeschi. Infinitely better than the almost as expensive Chicarito. Infinitely better than the $6,000,000 Costa. Infinitely better than Benteke, Martinez, Vela, etc. Good job!
Y'all are silly. This is window shopping season and FIFA just put out rankings...you get precious few DPs on an MLS roster...they must be maximized. So yea, this is when you critique Shaqiri and Torres relative to what may be on the market
We have one DP slot. Let’s maximize it. That doesn’t have a whole lot to do with this thread so let’s move the discussion to the 2023 roster thread? Unless there’s a good reason to discuss it here? I guess if an opportunity to move Shaqiri opened up we could discuss who is both better and available but until that point we have one open DP slot that is independent of Xherdan. Let’s find a complementary DP player.
Ezra needs to adjust this season. Last year he tried to force players into his system without much success. Kacper is more effective in a two striker system, Shaq is more effective on the side vs the 10, etc. Ezra has not earned the right to be a system coach. Work with your players to find a better fit
Evidently Shaqiri didn't impress anyone as a 10...no one in the thread advocating for him, except 1 CF97 homer lol Working on my MLS top 100 and top 5 by each position, and man, the current crop of No. 10s in the league is so incredibly strong. How do you pick five from:Driussi, GIl, Puig, Gazdag, Reynoso, Almada, Lucho, Zelarayan, Evander, Lodeiro, Gauld and more?!?— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) January 17, 2023 Will be interesting to see if he remains in the role in 2023...even then it will probably evolve based on whoever is the 3rd DP.
Looks like two people supporting him and I haven’t even replied yet! But this should probably be posted in the Ezra deathwatch thread…
It takes players we don't have to make him worth even as much as *less* money than we're paying him. A DP for a team in our position needs to be one that drags everyone up, not waits for them to catch up. I don't see how one other DP is going to be the magic fit that makes this guy stop being a bad investment for us....but it would be outstanding to be wrong. I haven't seen a lot of magic in terms of player acquisition by this club in longer than I care to remember, so it's hard to feel hopeful that we're like one step away from something worth watching.
Does *Shaqiri rate better or worse than 2017 #Schweinsteiger in this respect? Wasn't Basti's supporting cast better? Swap them and see which team would look better on paper. It's not like oft injured CB Basti lifted the side much the next two seasons. Nikolic > Duràn/Kacper Accam, Alvarez, de Leeuw, Djordje, Solignac > *Guti, Herbers, Mueller, Torres #Bronico, Dax, Juninho > Gaston, F. Navarro, Pineda Polster, Kap, Meira, Vincent = Sekulic, Teràn, Czichos, M. Navarro Any of 4 crap GK < Gaga
