Our newest Angeleno ✍️We have acquired Joseph Paintsil from Belgian Pro League side K.R.C. Genk as a Designated Player and signed the forward to a four-year contract through the end of the 2027 MLS season.📰: https://t.co/YE5zAFieZJ | @kinecta pic.twitter.com/Xt97QfRCif— LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) February 21, 2024 Officially official. Whether or not he's available this weekend, this is pretty great work from the FO to fill all of our DP spots and have these players available no later than week 2. I'm excited. Genk ➡️ Los Angeles. Thanks for everything Joske. Good luck in LA. 👋#mijnploeg #riseabove pic.twitter.com/b1xbx0sHXU— KRC Genk (@KRCGenkofficial) February 21, 2024
No. 28🇬🇭⏳ pic.twitter.com/5let9ZaOed— Bortey 🇬🇭 (@joelbortey) February 21, 2024 #28. Didn't see that coming. With Joseph Paintsil, Brazil U-23 int'l winger Gabriel Pec and Japan int'l right back Miki Yamane, the Galaxy have spent north of $20 million in transfer fees this winter.Serious investment, all in-prime or rising talents. https://t.co/gPAOuxxuuF— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) February 21, 2024 Real investment this year. .@josephpaintsil_ is a G 💫 pic.twitter.com/IZ5lA0g7ij— LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) February 21, 2024 His own music! Love it.
If Vivi or someone else gets a green card before the secondary transfer window, we also reclaim an int’l spot and could use it then without loaning him down. The old rule was a green card only applied if you had it before the roster compliance deadline to open the season. So, if we know Vivi’s green card is in the works and we aren’t going to sign someone now, it’s probably better to acquire the int’l spot now (before the price jumps again) and use it on Vivi until we need it for someone else.
This team is going to be a real problem. On paper we are going to be shutting up haters like crazy. On Paper!!!
Unfortunately, at the time of the press release, he didn't have his P1 visa and them Galaxy were still waiting for Genk to send his transfer certificate. I don't know if they can get those in 2 business days.
Mavinga waived. Interesting with Neal still out. I guess we get an int'l slot and presumably his salary if it wasn't guaranteed yet. Thank you, Chris 🙏 Defender Chris Mavinga has been placed on waivers.📰: https://t.co/cI9c1Y5JSv pic.twitter.com/WTze3fQxpF— LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) February 22, 2024
hmmmm I’d keep him over Zaveleta. We need a new center back sooner than later. Maybe we have something up our sleeve.
It's possible we decided that if we just need a mistake prone defender with makeup speed and the ability to head the ball, we can get by with Ferkranus, who is neither as expensive nor requires an int'l slot. Still seems like we may have something else cooking. MLS' window is still open until late April and there likely will be some central defenders available who can give us what Mavinga gave us.
Gotta say if the plan is to give Mavinga’s minutes to Ferkranus or to sign someone else, I’m for it. If there was a player who played himself right off the team in pre-season, it was him. Seems like a nice fella so I wish him luck. But can’t say I’m sorry to see him go.
we've let a LOT of quality contributors go because of salary cap concerns. Llletget and Boyd more recently.
Wonder why we traded for an extra int.slot this morning just accumulate one more via waivers. 2 open slots.
Zavaleta is the perfect number 4 or 5 center back. Basically no cost to have him. You know what you're going to get and he isn't preventing you from any other roster additions you might have.
IMO, Lletget was not a quality contributor by the time he left. All in all, he only had 2 years that were good (2015 and 2020), since then he has scored a total of 6 goals in over 5200 minutes for the Galaxy, New England and Dallas. I agree about Boyd was solid, but it was his choice to sign a 1 year contract with the hope that he could parley a good year into a better long term contract. I sincerely hope that he did that, even if it wasn't with the Galaxy.
I mean and that's what it looks like. After the exodus early in off-season most players would feel safe as it has been done the same for time immemorial under the previous FO but this guy Kuntz is not playing. He continues to watch and evaluate and make moves bringing a standard to bear and I for one love it. It says to everybody you either do or you do not, there is no try, baby. This is what Galaxy has needed for a long time. There is now a standard of performance.
