Beakers (from) f'n Milwaukee. They just finished their set and took off their lab coats. Sorry, no pics. Didn't take any. Somebody described them on YouTube as "If Fred Schneider f*cked all of Devo, then ate a bunch of pop-tarts, Beaker would be the result."
Phil Lesh. I’ve seen Iggy and while I respect and like some of his music, I do not have an urge to see him again.
I agree about Iggy, been there, saw that. I did read that his show at the Salt Shed was terrific. Kudos for seeing someone older than Iggy! That is an accomplishment.
Looks like a decent setlist, who'd he have singing? How's the sound at the SaltShed? PL&F had Tweedy and Margo Price out at Seatgeek for the Sacred Rose Festival last August...good show.
I enjoyed Sacred Rose, too. Sound there was a bit poor with the overlap but not horrendous. I was pleasantly surprised that the sound on the floor and in the back raised seats was pretty fantastic. I expected echo but it was clean. Warren Haynes sang a bunch, as did Phil. But he also had horns/singers and a second guitarist (Rick Mitarotonda) who sang a bunch, too. Last night ended with a backup singer belting out Aretha Franklin’s Rock Steady. It was very well done and Aretha’s not an easy act to follow.
Love Warren, but he doesn't exactly have a "pretty voice"...but he sure knows how to sing and brings so much to a band's performance! I've lost track of the number of "bands" I've seen Warren play in...multiple versions of ABB then spawning Mule in 94? Back in 1992? I saw a weird little band he had that its sole purpose was "road schooling" Derek Trucks (who was ~12yr old) in a small bar with maybe 75 people in it. Kid already had the magic back then, just needed to learn living on the road and performing on stage. He was super shy then, Braves hat pulled down so you couldn't see his eyes...and started coming out of his shell the following year. There was an interesting communal group of players in the SE back then...at times they fought like family but they always ended up supporting each other, like family. If you dig that genre, and are not familiar with them, check out the first album from Col. Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit ...long gone band, but great music and lots of cool musicians connected via that band (Chuck Leavell, Oteil Burbridge, Jimmy Herring, Jeff Sipe, Matt Mundy, Count M'Butu, Jeff Mosier, etc)...feel lucky to have seen them multiple times.
Hahaha Not only have I seen Col. Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit multiple times, I saw the goddamn Hampton Grease Band reunion in Atlanta in 2006. How stupid is that?
That is funny. After the Col & Mundy "retired" in 94?, I only saw the varying forms of ARU 2 or 3 times...it was clear Oteil & Jimmy were going to "break out" in some way...and it wouldn't be with ARU. In 2017, a group of friends were trying to get me to come down for the Col's 70th celebration at the Fox (where he passed away during the encore), but my son's club team had a tournament that weekend. The folks at the show had no idea anything was 'wrong' until the Col was gone gone. They all thought it was some kind of joke. He was surrounded by friends doing what he loved...couldn't have scripted his departure any better.
It's really nice as a writer to listen to a song and immediately form a sequence for something you're writing just based on the flow of the music. Mentally piecing together an opening sequence that somehow transitions from this first song to the second song.
Pixies always bring it First time seeing them live, Athens Ga 1988. Last time seeing them live, Stockholm Sweden 2022.
I decided to get my Joy Division fix and watched Control, which I have not seen since I saw it on opening night in the theater. then 24 Hour Party People
