Sean really deserved this. I shudder to think of what the season would have been without him providing our only source of speed in the back.

    Congrats Sean!!!

I'm really excited for Sean and the Galaxy - well-deserved! I hope he's a member of our team for years to come.

Very well deserved. Great for Sean!

I'm glad to see that the league is giving defenders their fair due for a change. The league usually errs on rewarding goal scorers and goal creators rather then the less sexy performers on the field. (See MLS weekly and monthly awards)

EDIT- Actually now that I look back at the history of the award, defenders are very well represented

kudos. i know it's unconventional to build a defense around your right-back, but that's what needs to happen.

This is awesome! It was very much deserved, so not a huge surprise, but very exciting nonetheless.

Kind of impressive, considering that he did it while being part of a backline that gave up the most goals in the MLS this year. I guess the ROY voters have the same opinion of the rest of our defenders as we do, and didn't hold it against him.

This makes me very very happy.

    *sniff*

I remember when he was just a wee lad, playing in front of 250 people for the San Fernando Valley Quakes.

Oh, wait, that was 18 months ago :D

Awesome news. Congrats, Sean, you deserve it.

Is this the first ROY to come out of the Galaxy? I think so right?

    Boo to the homers

Homer Galaxy (think with your head)

Bad Call. Sean was a nice discovery this year and will be a fine MLS player someday. But this was another lame tip o' the hat by MLS to huge losers we are the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Only in a bizarro-world does the team that gave up the most goals in the league by a huge difference has there starting center back get an award for it.

Brad Evans & Robbie Rogers got ripped off. They deserved it!! They have achieved more this season.

    Re: Boo to the homers

It's an individual award. Not a team award.

Let me put it this way. If a rookie forward had scored 15 goals this year, but his team had only scored 28 goals for the season, giving them the last-place offense in the league, would anyone complain if that rookie was named ROTY?

Of this year's crop, Franklin was the best rookie....

Congrats to Sean. Been travelling these last few weeks, so I've been out of the loop. Looks like he got the USMNT nod as well. Good for him.
