    Folks,

Things got way out of hand on the pre-match thread. We're not going to let that happen here. The official threads are for real discussion. They're not for smack. Good humor is, of course, OK. But there's a difference between humor and smack. Generally they're here for DC United fans but fans of other teams are welcome too but only if they abide by the rules.

If you want to talk smack then start another thread. Smack is not welcome on the official threads. If you post smack then your post will be deleted. And it doesn't matter if you're a DC United supporter or not.

With that I'll simply say ...

    NO FLAMES
    NO TROLLS
    NO SMACK

And although we've been relaxed about this recently, that's going to change today.

Can someone please give me some sort of play-by-play or update on the game? It's hard staring blankly at the computer screen (we're not getting the game in Atlanta)...

    Puh-leeze.

Not much to update, just another scoreless, boring half for negative, lifeless United. Maybe this half they will do something. 46th minute.

    0-0 at the half.

As a Rev Fan I sure hope DCU can win this one and keep the Swamp Rats from gaining on both of us. If we can stiffle the Metros the Revs and DCU can fight it our like two honorable, respectable franchises. Of course a tie wouldn't be too bad but defeating the MUTTS would be preferred.

    Go DCU

    Wow do we suck.

For the most part a very boring game.

Why do we continue to play w/only one forward when we can't score as it is??? Has that EVER worked???

We are not officially but just about out of the playoffs now

Our offense is an absolute joke. We didn't even come close to scoring except for Eddie Pope.

The good news is we can now set our sights on rebuilding. Everyone on offense can go.

A simply awful soccer game by both sides. Reyes did well on Diallo for all but one play, bringing him down for a PK. But Rimando saved it (hit hard, but a foot to Nicky's left).

GWG came on a nice early ball to Faria who made a run deep to the left side of the penalty area on a counter. A nice cross to Mathis, who had blown by a sleeping Nelson, and Clint touched it home, then showed off his beer belly (that is a man not in shape).

    That's pretty much the season.

Why is Alavanja on the field? Seriously.

Yet another scorless game for dc 92nd minute OT winner from Mathis. dc blows the game in hand. Metros are almost in the playoff and KC becomes the target for NE. dc's goose is just about cooked.

Yeah, sorry we scored last game. I guess that means KC still has the longest scoreless streak.

    Why don't you go away.

    Captain Obvious...I like that.

    ...and I'd have to agree.

    Some quick thoughts:

Williams was particularly poor today, just giving the ball away at every opportunity. He did a decent job of "disrupting" (fouling), but otherwise was of no help.

But Alavanja was worse. He gave the ball away AND did little of note on defense. I would have rather seen Chino at that point.

Lassiter - yech. But Q2 was invisible most of the night, too.

Good game for Rimando, I guess. Good PK stop, but never tested on much else.

The back line did alright, but Reyes was caught WAY upfield on the counter. At the end of the CSN broadcast they showed an "animated" discussion between Reyes and Pope - probably Pope asking him where the ************ he was on the cross.

While I love that Reyes gets forward, he both leaves us vulnerable in the back and doesn't do much of note in the attack.

Zaidie ate Convey for lunch. Absolutely owned him.

No Moreno, Etch and Olsen went the full 90, though neither was a force late. To be honest, there was no way in hell we were going to score - even if we have been left out there for 180 minutes.

Why was Q2 subbed out? Was he hurt? Because Lassitude sure did a whole lot of nothing for almost an entire half.

    What was the deal?

Could someone please, please put some offensive back into this team. What/who do we need up front? Lassiter was stunning in his lameness. It is beyond sad to think we have not seen a win on the road since last year. That being said I will be there on Saturday and like the fool that I am will buy my season tickets yet again next year but it is getting very hard to convince my friends to come to games with me. Somebody do something please.

    We're in last place.

That's the tenth game in a row without a victory.

That's the tenth time we've been shutout this year.

On the bright side Ray is a lot funnier than Thomas was.

OK, dc is winless in 10 league games. Look at the bright side, dc is odds on for the coveted first draft pick and league special treatment.

Why did Hudson insist on playing Olsen up top? That left us with a midfield of Convey, Etch, RW, and McKinley, only one of whom is remotely a wide player. As meager as our attack is, funneling it all down the middle makes it even worse. Starting Roy "What car did you say were driving?" Lassiter and Q2 up top would have served us better (I can't believe I am advocating starting Roy up front). Olsen was left to play either up top with Q2 leaving the right flank completely unused, or he was to drop into his normal role out wide, leaving us with one striker, and we know how effective that's been.

Convey was awful today out wide. Ziadie completely owned him. I can't remember much good coming from the left side all game.

The defense wasn't bad. Rimando was solid. I thought Reyes did admirably considering he had to cover the entire right flank. They fell asleep on the goal, but we can't expect them to be perfect game-in game-out.

Lazo Alavanja is possibly the worst player playing on an MLS team right now. He exceeds RW in giving the ball away on offense, and by no means matches RW's intensity and tenacity defensively. Alavanja's playing today speaks volumes about how bad the bench is. It's not like we're missing loads of players...Alavanja is the second midfielder to come off the bench (RW or McKinley being the first, as normally Olsen is in the midfield). Bad, bad, bad.

But I'm still coming up on Saturday to RFK....ah, such a masochist.

I haven't seen Lazo play much, having just gotten the Shootout a month ago, but I'm pretty amazed by the way he can look completely disconnected in a late-season foulfest between two rivals fighting for the final playoff spot. Though the game sucked through and through at least everyone showed intensity except Lazo. Why not Chino?

Say what you want about Moreno's stats and his weight and all his misses this year, but boy does the team play different when he's in the game.

I was going to save this for a discussion on another thread, but Freestyle tempted me.

I tracked Williams all game. He had 37 passing opportunities in the first half and completed 30. The seven misses were in MetroScum territory.

He had 36 passing opportunities in the second half and completed 32. He missed three in MetroScum territory and was stripped once while passing in the middle third of United's half, leading to a counter that A. Williams ballooned over the bar.

Overall, that's 73 opportunities, with 62 completions and 11 misses.

His job is to serve as an outlet for the defense and offense and make safe, simple passes to hold possession and switch the field of play.

Williams did his job today. Go find another scapegoat.
