If we beat them I think there's a very, very good chance Mo Johnston will be fired. I have the impression they're looking for an excuse to can him.
    Interesting rumor.
They took the grass out. We're playing on the fake stuff. Boo!

all i gotta say about the interesting rumor, is:

finally, someone feels like making a team up there, at least now we can have a real rivalry again...although that 2-2 draw showed signs of it

    onto the match:
    1-0, to the good guys

that's 72 oz of pure fun

    that's for mo johnston

didn't we get someone else fired? oh yeah, greg andrulis!!

Either two things will happen Saturday. 1) New Jersey will play with everything they have as their necks are on the line and make it a real tight, physical match or 2) the turmoil up there will spill over to the field and it will be a turkey shoot.

Isn't the pre-match supposed to be out on Wednesday? Why do people envision that we need to revolve around GMT? We're in America and we should EST, CST, MST or PST - but there's no reason to be european posers and use european time. Grow a pair. Take off the mink-covered jack boots and strap on the steel toed, leather jack boots!

ahh, now I feel better. :p

In light of the Dead-Bulls keeping the Metro-tard tradition of comedy and suck going for another few years...An early start is in good form....

    Speaking of form....

A good midfield non-stop assault by D.C. should do the trick...

Normally I wouldn't expect ta favor a road team this early in the season unless either

    1) the road team is playing exceptionally well or

    2) the home team is in serious turmoil

It doesn't seem that our team is hitting on all cylinders yet but that home team is a total distraction now. Seems kinda clear that we win this week.

I can't even make it to HOME matches with my work schedule the way it is now, I can only dream of making it to away games.

new rumor. red bull to clean house and literally become the cosmos. also, they are considering pulling out of the harrison project.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2006/04/19/sports/soccer/19soccer.html

you just cannot make this stuff up. aeg will gladly place an expansion team in harrison for '08 and new york will rue the day they passed up harrison for the meadowlands. uggh.

It all makes sense though. They have been nothing but mediocre for their whole history. At least they can kid themselves they are the OLD cosmos for a while:D

The only thing that worries me is the chance that they actually use RBs money and get some SERIOUS players in.............

With all this Red Bull/Cosmos/Shep/Pepe Pinton/Der Kaiser/Alexi-Dumping/Harrison-Abandoning Madness going on up I-95, I think real pre-match discussion is going to be fairly difficult. But I'll give it a shot...

I'd really like to see both Esky and Freddy starting for this one. Not only do I think both of them have performed well over the past three weeks and have earned a spot, but they have both historically burned it up in the Meadowlands.

It's very strange having the new Nowak where formation and personnel vary not just from week to week, but half to half! I think we'll see Freddy on the right and Gros on the left again this week like last week. For one, that'll keep Freddy away from Wynne's side and allow him to exploit his speed. Gros, fresh off shutting down Mullan, can concentrate on shutting down Henderson. As for Olsen, Carroll, and our backline, it's all about shutting down Youri. He's always their most dangerous player on the field and Carroll showed in our 4-1 victory up there last year that denying him service is the key to frustrating this team.

I'll agree with Tuna. If we can deny Youri service and can get in Guevara's head, we shouldn't have much trouble defensively.

We'll score enough to beat this team if we can do that.

Wow I just watched that Metro fan video on the DC-Red Bull game at RFK

"F DC" chants at RFK and middle fingers at the DC fans and they expect nothing to happen? And then cry when something does? What the hell's wrong w/them?

I'll watch the game on tv, good luck to the DC fans up there hope you have a good time.

I agree. Once Esky entered the first game, Wynne was much less effective and Freddy had more freedom to play.

Which of those two things did we fail to do on opening day? Guevara was a non-factor, and Djorkaeff was a factor only because he got to take the free kick.

I'm always wary of short lists like this. Despite only playing for a fraction of the last 12 months, Edson Buddle has scored more goals on us in regular season play than anyone else in the entire league. We don't merely have to play Djorkaeff and Guevara; we have to play their team. I have no doubt we can do that -- I think we are a better team than they are. But it isn't just about Djorkaeff and Guevara.

I agree Buddle is a goal-scoring threat BUT someone has to get him the ball. If we can shut down Youri and Guevara, Buddle won't get decent service. That's all I was saying there. I'm not trying to imply that Youri and Guevara are the whole team.

Re: Official DC United @ New York Red Bulls PRE Match Thread

I actually think we did this on opening day. We did a good job defensively shutting them down. Oddly enough, I think both Chivas and Houston generated more clear chances than did NY, but didn't finish well or have any good calls, bounces, etc. I want to see a repeat this week!

Djorkaeff set up his own free kick with a strong run through midfield. I believe Carroll got caught upfield and Freddy had to come back and foul. The Buddle goal was Perkins' fault of course.

I'm not saying that this is the advice Nowak should give to the team (Hey guys, shut down the Frenchman and don't worry about the rest)! I'm just saying that if we limit his touches and allow him few dangerous free kick chances (the one he scored on in Week 1 wouldn't even count, I'm talking closer) we're WAY better off. I just don't see them scoring two goals on us without Djorkaeff being involved in at least one of the goals.

I do too, and that's my point: we did these things and we still didn't come away with the win. So there's more to the game than that.

Of course a BIG difference from game one is that Christian Gomez will be playing. Olsen will be able to lie back with Alpha to choke off Youri and Amado.

I want Esky and Freddy starting too.

    -----------------Oliver Kahn v 2.0

    -------Erpen---------Boswell---------Pridson
    Gros
    ---------------Alpha----------Olsen

    ----------------------Gomez-------Fred
    ---------------Moreno

RBNY was listless last week vs RSL too. Their goal was against the run of play and kreis' goal near the end was a deserved one. Meola is so far the best player on that team. He's doing well.
