Qu Bo, on only his 2nd day at Tottenham, had 3 assists in only 6 minutes as the Spurs beat Crystal Palace 4-0 today. Qu subbed in at the 60th minute and he made immediate impact on the offensive end. Fantastic English debut by Qu!!!! If he continues like this I'm pretty sure the Spurs will sign him!!!
Qu Bo's debut was highly praised by the British media. Below are some pics of him during the game: Article on the match at Spur's official site: http://www.spurs.co.uk/article.asp?article=101516
What position does Qu Bo play? It's good to see Asians performing in England, even if it's pre-season. Last year, they obviously only wanted Japanese players so they can sell more replica jerseys. The real test comes when the season starts though. Remember that Nishizawa actually played well for Bolton in pre-season but never got a chance once league play started.
Sun Jihai was a starter for Manchester City in their 4-3 win against Bury - not for Newcastle! Sun is expected to start on the right side of a three-man back line when the Premiership season starts.
Qu plays forward but Bora has played him as right winger in the NT. Tottenham is not deep in the forward position. I think Les Ferdinand, Rebrov, and Sheringham are the only 3 established forwards. Ferdinand has been injured and hasn't played in any of the pre-season matches, and he's 36 years old so it's doubtful he can be an effective player for the Spurs. So all in all Qu has a decent chance of playing for the team, if he keeps playing like the way he has. What happened to Nishizawa at Bolton? (I'm not really a Bolton fan)... Why wasn't he playing for the team? I mean skill-wise I can't imagine him not being one of the better players in the team.
My bad....I kept associating Sun with the Magpies in my mind, because they were one of the teams that were (and still is) interested in him. Not sure if he's going to start as one of the center backs. I thought in all the games he played he was the right wing-back in a 3-5-2 or the right fullback in a 4-4-2. At Dalian Shide and the NT, he was always the right fullback in a 4-4-2. I expect to see him in the right wing-back position.
What a debut by Qu! I think the next pre-season game for Spurs is to play against Celtic. If Qu is going to play well again, then Hoddle will sign him. But he still need to get his work permit, hopefully they will get it done. Qu might become the best striker for the Chinese national squad in the future. Really surprise me that Sun was a starter for the last two games, after Kevin spent so much money on the transfer market. Hopefully he can keep that position as the season kicks off.
his debut went really well. supposedly, Tottenham fans were chanting "SIGN HIM UP! SIGN HIM UP!" heh. i read that Qu Bo should have probably had a fourth assist but the striker couldn't finish.
not bad for Qu, but it's pre-season and the defense is lax. However, it seems he's not playing as a forward. Too bad it's spurs, else I'll cheer for him.
My concern is the work permit. He does not have enough caps for it. Juninho just got rejected for one. what is Qu Bo's chance?
As far as I know, the work permit rule allows some leeway for very promising youngsters or special circumstance. Like Friedel got his though he hadn't played a lot of games for the U.S.
Why is Kevin Keegan asking him to play probably the only position (outside of goalkeeper) that he isn't good at.
Qu Bo is young. The work permit rule is not black and white. There is some grey areas and age can be a factor.
nw, how about the rule that says you have to play 75% of all eligible matches in order to renew your permit. Is that rule still in place?
not sure but I think it does. Nonetheless, I heard that it too can be gray. I heard that you need the coach's comment if you don't play 75% of the matches. BTW, how do you pronounce Qu Bo? like...Chwibo?
It is still ineffective. Juninho's work permit was rejected yesterday. Apparently, only two Brazilian players -- Rivaldo and Roger Carlos -- are eligible for a permit. In the end, Juninho will probably get it. Friedel got exemption because he is a keeper. That's the reason why he got approved. Qu Bo probably might get a special exemption due to his age. But I think it will need an appeal. The British has been more laxed in recent years. But Kirovski, who was projected to be the best Manchester United product since Ryan Giggs, was rejected two years in a row. He broke many records at the MU youth team. Let's see.....
wow..that would mean San Lee of West Ham Utd's youth team may have a REALLY tough time playing in the EPL even though he is awesome in his youth team! BTW, wouldn't Beckham be the best ManU product since Giggs?
Yes it's still in place, but once again, it's not set in stone. Sunderland got Julio Arco who didn't play a single time for Argentina because they argued that he was certain to become a future star. I'm pretty confident he can get a work permit.
