If you guys like Lif, check out Virtuoso and Akrobatik as well. Some good songs to check out are Inhuman Capabilities (Lif and Ak), God's Angry Men (Lif, Ak and Esoteric) and Omnipotence/Beatdown/Slicin' Your Wrists (all Virtuoso)
I'm a HUGE fan of Shadow and Blackalicious. I'm still hurting that Shadow's concert sold out up here in Boston. Blazing Arrow is my album of the year thus far
Cool...I love Lif. I'm expecting great things from his full-length. Also, as a huge Shadow fan, what did you think about the RJD2 album?
Speaking of Tribe, anyone ever heard of Tribe Vibes? There are 3 volumes, and it's strictly the songs that Tribe sampled. I can only find them on vinyl though...anyone know if they're on CD anywhere?
Yeah, Inhuman Capabilites is one of the better tracks on the Lif live cd. And that freestyle session on there is pretty fucking sick, if you haven't heard it.
Yeah dude, the Lif live CD is awesome. I love that Triangular Warfare is on there, and the freestyle is out of this world...I put that on a money all freestyle CD with the Virtuoso/Esoteric one from Stretch Armstrong and a hilarious Kool Keith/Xzibit one that are both like 10 minutes long. I haven't check out RJD2 yet as I am dirt poor...Shadow's new one was the last one I picked up, and like three and a half months ago I grabbed Blazing Arrow, new Weezer and Badly Drawn Boy, and the latest White Stripes in one fell swoop. I was listnening to some 2pac on the way to work today and thought how great it was when popular rappers could, you know, rhyme. Listen to any oldschool lunch and then the first couple of songs from today, and it is just a remarkable difference. Why do I feel like if PE started out in these times, they would have been forced to stay underground?
true underground for me - raw and explicit, thus the term "underground" CAGE COPYWRITE SMUT PEDDLERS NECRO We fight in this Tower of Babble...3 MC's and one bow and arrow....
I don't know...there's something a little too gimmicky for me about Cage, Smut Peddlers and Necro. Some of Eon's stuff makes me laugh and just seems to be in good humor, but the rest of those guys need to lighten up/find something new to rhyme about. That "shock value" stuff is pure ************************ in my mind. But I guess they all saw the success that Em has had relying on it, so they're following along.
whattt are you saying man? i can say for sure smut peddlers and cage were around way before eminem made it big, if anything eminem is a cage biter. yea eon is kinda funny, but i dont think he tries to be, i think he's kinda dumb...
I think they both came up around the same time, but you're missing my point. Rhyming for shock value is pathetic...whether you came up with it yourself, or you bit some other guy's style. It's still pathetic. I'm a grown man, I don't need to listen to some guy pretending to be "crazy" and talking about humping aborted fetuses.
i guess everyone has their own taste, and cage is my style, and i think cage really is messed up, he looks slightly retarded...
A mighty good news bump (courtesy of okayplayer.com): Don't take a seat and get comfortable just yet. To kick off the fall line up of tours, Dilated Peoples, Blackalicious, and Public Enemy are all going on the road together!

Nonetheless, I will be at Bogarts on the 29th. Here's hoping those lovable cincy cops stay far away.
Dammit, why Worcester? Alas, I'll have to haul my ass out there anyway for what should be the show of the season.
they get nowhere close to FL, Dwammm! What do you guys think of Masterminds, Knocturnal and Aesop Rock?
Masterminds - haven't heard too much of their stuff, but what I have heard has been awfully average. Are they Swollen Members in disguise? Knocturnal - don't know...isn't he down with Dre? Aesop Rock - very very talented. Flow, cool voice, etc. But, but what is he saying? I definitely dig a good amount of his stuff. But sometimes I don't want to have to think that hard. He's got potential though...
Bump I've gotten lots of new CD's lately: INI - "Center of Attention" DJ Z-Trip and DJ P "Uneasy Listnening Vol. 1" Soul Position (Blueprint & RJD2) - "Unlimited EP" King Britt - "The Philadelphia Experiment Remixed" Various - Urban Renewal Program I'm still owed DJ Jazzy Jeff's Beat Generation album and Slum Village "Trinity". I'll be back later with reviews.
INI is pretty good. For those that don't know, INI was Pete Rock's group with him, his brother Grap Luva and Rob-O. This album was completed in the mid-90's but shelved by the label. But it's a good album. A return to that "Golden Era" sound...with some of Pete Rock's best production. So you get some excellent, laid back beats...with some fairly mediocre lyrics. Nothing that will have you pressing rewind, but they do tend to ride the beats nicely. A good laid-back album. I wouldn't give it 5 stars like hiphopsite did, but I think it's a solid 4. At times it does seem a little dated, and some of the loops have since been used elsewhere. But it's solid.
That Soul Position EP is allright- I will definately buy the full-length when it comes out, but I hope it's got more tracks like 'Mic Control' on it. I don't think I need to hear Blueprint try to sing again, though.
I agree...I'm definitely picking up the full-length when it drops. But I disagree about the singing. I'm assuming you're talking about "Take Your Time". I love that song.
Yeah, I was talking about "Take Your Time". I actually like the rest of the song, but I just fast forward through his singing . . . Of course, I take a lot of liberties with a lot of songs- When I make mixes, I'm really bad about mixing out or mixing over parts of songs I don't like. I'm interested to see who 'The Weathermen' will actually be when the record comes out, as it could be just about anybody in the extended Mhz crew. I'm thinking Copywrite's ego will keep him out. Got my tickets to PE/Blackalicious yesterday- Just over three weeks til the cincy show.
