Cha is good. But anyone heard of Filipino Paulino Alcantara (1896-1954)? He is FC Barcelona's all-time leading goalscorer (357 goals in 357 matches). He was also the first Asian footballer to play for a European club. He debuted for Barca at the age of 15 years, 4 months and 18 days against Catalá SC in the Championat de Catalunya. FC Barcelona won 9-0. Alcántara scored a hat-trick - the first three goals of the match. Paulino also played on the 1917 Philippine National Team responsible for the Japanese National Team's worst defeat ever, 15-2. Too bad though, as the onset of basketball erased whatever potential Filipino footballers may have had.
I think someone mentioned him before. He was half Filipino and half something else if I remember correctly.
yeah. half-spanish. played for both the philippine and spanish national squads. i dunno, the phils. prefers playing basketball, instead of football.
greatest asian player ever lived... who??? Filipino Paulino who??? enjoy this clip http://playend.com/index.php?category=soccer&board=soccer_Highlight&page=3&uid=4007
can you translate the quotes at the very end? i would like to know what SAF, Figo, Kahn, Ballack, Owen and the rest had to say about him
My korean's a little rusty but I guess Ill take a stab at it. Is this the homeland of Cha boom? (referring to Korea during 2002 world cup) I have always wanted to come here. He is my idol. -Ballack I have always wanted your autograph. To be here is an honor to me. -Khan I have a lot of respect for Cha Boom. Ever since I was little, I grew up watching him play. I wanted to be like him. -Owen It is a great honor that Cha boom was a part of my life. -Figo I am lucky that I never had to face an attackers such as him. -Maldini The only problem we could not solve was when we had to face Cha Boom. We could not defend against him. (errr, somethin like that) -Ferguson If im wrong plz correct me. I left out 2 cuz Im not really that good in Korean.
Some of these may not be exact, here it goes Michael Ballack Is this Cha Bum's homeland? I wanted to come here so much. He is my idol. Oliver Kahn I wanted to get your autograph. This is a big honor for me. Michael Owen I respect Cha Bum. I grew up watching him. I want to be like him Luis Figo Cha Bum is my biggest idol. Paolo Maldini It is fortunate that I didn't have to face an attacker like him. Jurgen Klinsmann I am considered an accomplished attacker myself but I am not at Cha Bum's level Ferguson The problem we couldn't solve was Cha Bum. We could not stop him. He is impossible to solve After 1st round UEFA Cup match w/ Frankfurt (as coach of Aberdeen) Gerhardt Schroeder, the German Chancellor This one's little hard but it's something like The purpose of this visit is to promote both countries' progress...something or other...but first, I want to meet Cha Bum (I have some doubt about Owen, by the time Cha left Bundeliga Owen was not even 10 years old. How much did a kid less than 10 years old in little Chester, England (and an Evertonian to boot) know about Bundesliga, let alone a Korean player playing there)? Well, just wondering.
Okay, I'm sure there's a link, I just don't want to go through all 11 pages. Call me lazy Does anyone have a video clip of the Cha Boom shot that was so hard it rattled the crossbar for seconds upon seconds??
He's a moron. Anyway, I find it quite interesting that you're referring yourself as a gook. K:theGook might go apeshite
if u take the racism out of racial slurs...then it wont bother you anymore...people get so up tight about it. in my HS everyone called each other by gook, chink, nip, dip, hindu, honkey, whitetrash..whatever..but we were all friends...so we didn't care. but thats just my school where no race felt superior to another. we embraced our differences and didn't try to conform to some single culture. to tell you the truth...the only slightly racist bunch were the koreans at my school...they were the cockiest, thinking they were better than everyone..that bothered me b/c they just spoiled all the fun. anyway, yeah..i'm politically incorrect but its not like i go into law school calling everyone by racist slurs. it pretty much remains that way w/ my HS circle but nowhere else. sorry if my alias bothers you.
ah, thanks for that. Found another clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28Fn-KGvzvo&mode=related&search=
Bigger, stronger and probably faster than Park Ji-sung, and definitely much better finishing ability, whether it be the foot or the head...
my deepest respect goes towards cha boom. never really knew about this guy until now. it's admirable how this guy made it so far and achieving something so farfetched as playing overseas (AND being successful as well) in one of the best leagues in the world when no other korean or asian player had done before him...
Let me quickly explain why Cha is so respected by the German fans who actually watched him on weekly basis. (Most Koreans have no idea what he did because of the lack of publicity and exposure to the game during that time) He played in the best league in the world. He was considered as the best striker at the time. He payroll was the 3rd highest at the time. He was the MVP. He won 2 major championships for 2 teams which were considered weak. And add these facts which reflected his character. He received one yellow during his 10 year career in Germany. He publicly stated that he will not take a dive in the penalty box as a Christian. He scored only one penalty kick during his career. He forgave the player who purposely wrecked his body on the field and become his friend. This is why a player like Klinsmann says he is not in the same league with Cha. German fans say that he is a legend. But most Koreans have no idea how good he was. Cha has not been popular with the Korean press.
