Now we just need to let Klein's contract expire on 12/31 and buy out Costa's contract on 1/1... That would hit the trifecta of addition by subtraction!!
Costa I imagine? I would forgive AEG for all its sins if it did that. That's a massive cash outlay (with more to come for replacement DPs) to fix this team.
Still trying to wrap my head around this. Cabral was a player on an active roster with a DP tag As a DP, he was traded to another MLS team His new MLS team has retained his DP tag Has there ever been a trade of a DP from one MLS team to another?
I remember the transfer, but I'm struggling to remember the financial details. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but in trading him there, didn't we pay his salary so that he wouldn't occupy one of their DP slots?
I'll tell you, I was really rooting for Cabral to succeed with us. To the Cabral brothers Kevin and Rémy, au revoir et bonne chance.
Oops, yes. I had Cabral on the brain. If we could undo the three biggest mistakes of last year (Cabral, Costa and Klein) then we'd be in a much better position for this season. (Provided we can use those 2 DP openings to pick up quality wingers in this first transfer window)
So we learn last Friday that we're penalized $1 million in future GAM, but no specific details about whether it applies to this season, next season, etc. ...and then seven days later, we work a deal to send Kevin Cabral to Colorado for $600K in 2023 GAM and $400K in 2024 GAM. It seems that we remain a bit restricted in our salary budget since we're still responsible to pay around half of his salary, but even then, the situation is still a net positive: we fully address a League penalty by sending an under performing player to a conference rival and if they can fix him to the point that he garners the interest of a foreign club, we get a sell-on fee. At a significant cost, we've given a failing player a change of scenery, improved our team, kept our one-time buyout option for the season, and opened up a DP spot. Color me optimistic for 2023!
you better have that checked, I hear symptoms include lack of coordination, awareness and overall cluelessness
so your future as a mod was solidified at 14? thats awesome, I'm glad you were able to follow your dreams and its a good thing you had that sound gig as a side job as it allowed you to fulfill your real dream
All I can think of is that Robin must have really owed Greg a massive favor or he thinks that he can actually make the guy work in his team. I am just glad that spot is now free and am wondering if we need to replace Cabral with another young DP in order to maintain the signings we got due to him having that tag. If we don't need another young DP then I can't wait to see who we offer a contract to in the winter to join LA. With CR7 looking to be off the table I wonder if Greg really will make a try for a Neymar or someone else along those lines.
I think it's a good deal for Colorado. They weren't going to get another DP anyway, so the GAM is largely meaningless to them. We are paying half his salary, so the real cost to ownership is small, and he has huge potential. Maybe Fraser can get something out of him, expectations will be much lower in Colorado.
I hear this from time to time but I don’t see it. He doesn’t have the speed everyone claims he does, he is technically terrible, can’t shoot accurately or powerfully and his soccer IQ is missing. He can run a lot but to little effect. He is weak on the ball, non-existent in the air and doesn’t fight for 50-50 balls. I’m not saying this to be mean - I just don’t get what others see in him, now or in the future.
Amazed that we actually traded Kevin Cabral. I know we were universally over him, for good reason. Good news!
Since we're prohibited from acquiring any players this summer that require an International Transfer Certificate, we need to make this January transfer window count double.
