What was the formation? Google says it was a back three with Minami/Koga/Shimizu. But what was it really? How did Koga play? I am sure she did alright, but I am still against her being in this squad. The same goes for Tanikawa, despite her talent.
Couldn't watch live, but judging from highlights, I can say free kick for Brazil was completely imaginary, Saki Kumagai continues to make serious mistakes in the middle (she had couple in WWC as well) and that Brazilians were very lucky and exhausted in the the end.
One good defending, one play led to YC, and she shouldn't have dodged the ball at Brasil's FK that led to the first goal. Overall, her performance was not so much different from Ishikawa (in at HT for her)'s one. I want to know the reason why you say it's too early that these young talents play in the senior team.
It was a four-back. Kumagai played as no.6 in front of the back four. Nagano and Hasegawa as no. 8s playing high. I thought Koga played well. I think she's one of the few (or the only) Japanese defenders with a bit of recovery ability, so I have high hopes for her. On the other hand, I thought the substitute (Ishikawa?) was not great - I thought she was too negative or safe with the ball. She kept making back passes when there were good options for progressive passes, and doing those back passes invited pressure from Brazil, I thought.
I think it was the perfect opportunity to play young prospects like those two. A good opponent in an away match but it was a friendly so it wouldn't cost. I don't see domestic game so I can't really judge, but I certainly have high hopes for Koga. She's comfortable on the ball (like most of Japanese defenders), but she's got pace to recover. Despite her height, I thought she was not good in the air when I watched her in one of the youth tournaments. I haven't really seen anything special or potential about Ishikawa but I can't judge her from the limited games I've seen.
There are a couple of reasons why, but I want to stress that I think both of them are very good young players, especially Tanikawa. Basically I am a bit old-fashioned and believe that young players coming through the ranks need to prove themselves at senior level on a regular basis in a decent league before being promoted to the national team. We can see their quality, but I want to see it on a regular basis against good, senior opposition. Nadeshiko League 2 is not a high enough level in my opinion. I am completely aware of the fact that Ikeda is privy to way more information than I am and he gets to see them up close at training, so I am sure he knows they have the talent to succeed. However, I just feel it has been a bit too easy for them. The other reason is that I would have liked to see both of them play for Young Nadeshiko at the under 20 world cup, but now they have both officially played for Nadeshiko that will not be happening. It looks like Kumagai had a game to forget. I do not mind Ikeda experimenting with different formations in friendlies. Judging by the highlights and the statistics it looked like Nadeshiko more than held their own playing in a new formation against a Brazilian side in Brazil. If Brazil played Nadeshiko in Japan, Nadeshiko would beat them pretty comfortably in my opinion. There was some very nice goals from Brazil and a great finish from Tanaka.

Wow, beating Orca is no joke for an high school team! Who's this Tsujisawa who scored an hat-trick? I've got the impression I heard the name but I can't remember: was she part of one of our Youth Teams?
Kouno Yuki #8 Shock result maybe. Orca 2 down after 8 minutes. ゴーーーーーーール!!!!#オルカ鴨川FC#河野有希 pic.twitter.com/1HAkMwgDGp— 【公式】オルカ鴨川FC / なでしこリーグ1部 (@orcakamogawafc) December 2, 2023 Btw, it's the 3rd round this week. ---------------------------edit------------------------- Training match result Nagano 3-0 Fujizakura
Please read #4382. By the way, I like Kubota more, but Tsujisawa might have some sense to score. Anyway because they are Yanase's kohais, may wear Regina's uniform next year.
Today's result: Empress's Cup 3rd round Setagaya (Nagasaki) 1-0 Menina Nippatsu (Takahashi, Katayama) 2-1 Yamato (Sue) Harima (Uchida, Katsurama, Shono) 3-0 Speranza Viama (Saito) 1-0 Toyo Uni Iga (Tsuneda, Murakami) 2-0 Anclas Nittaidai (Kitazawa, Lee) 2-1 Teikyo Heisei Uni (Koga)
Fumina Katsurama strikes again! Also Yuma Saito keeps being the top scorer of this Empress' Cup so far!
soo is it just me who's extremely disappointed with the starting lineup? Like, why would you play the same players, who 1) are clearly tired from the previous game 2) also sending a pretty bad message to the reserves? I didn't mean to replace the whole 11 but I was hoping for more
yep, one random goal by Minami on a corner and one strike from distance from Tanaka (terrible goalkeeping from brazil GK to be honest)
Absolutely chaotic defending. Complete miscommunication by Koga and Shimizu. Both expecting the other to clear the ball as it rolls across the face of the goal.
