Hi, guys: sorry for the delay in opening the new 2023 thread, but I was a little ill between yesterday and today (nothing serious, some little fever and a bad digestion), so the year didn't start so well for me! For this year, we sure have our eyes set on WWC 2023, in Australia & New Zealand. Will we see a resurgence of our Senior National Team? In the last 12-year-cycle we had: WWC 2011: Champions; WWC 2015: finalists; WWC 2019: out in the round of 16! The trend doesn't exactly look much reassuring. Oh, well, our group C at this World Cup should be a very playable one, with Spain, Costa Rica and Zambia and subsequently we should cross paths with the also not overly intimidating Group A, that includes Norway, New Zealand, Philippines and Switzerland. Our latest displays suggest that we can't be contenders for the title, this time, but doing better than 2019 is in our reach! Club football should be very interesting too, with WE League and Empress' Cup being underway (in the past, at the beginning of the year, the league had finished months before and Empress' Cup was celebrating the final match) and with many players overseas having interesting experiences (including some UEFA WCL's runs). I also look forward for a real World Cup for clubs finally taking place. In short: another exciting year on Nadeshiko Japan football lies ahead. Let's brace for it!
January competition dates 31st All Japan High School Women's Soccer Championship Quaterfinals - 3rd Jan Semifinals - 5th Jan Final - 8th Jan 31st All Japan University Women's Football Championship Semifinals - 4th Jan Final - 6th Jan 26th All Japan U-18 Women's Football Championship Round of 16 (1st round) - 3rd Jan Quaterfinals - 5th Jan Semifinals - 7th Jan Final - 9th Jan 44th Japan Women's Football Championship - Empress's Cup Quaterfinals - 15th Jan Semifinals - 22nd Jan Final - 28th Jan
Today's result (1): All Japan high school tournament Sakuyo (Yuba, Nishiyama) 2-2 (PK, 4-2) AICJ (Kuwahara, Umezu) Tokiwagi (Miura) 1-2 Jumonji (Miyake, Chiba)
Today's result (2): Takagawa Gakuen (Masuya) 1-6 Fujieda Junshin (Kubota2, Takaoka 2, Suzuki, Miyake) Ohtemon Gakuin (Kyota) 1-3 Hinomoto (Okabayashi 2, Takahashi) Correction; I wrote several times about Shono Runa in Fujieda, but her real surname is Masano. Kubota showed something special in this game.
Today's result (3): All Japan U-18 tournament first round Inac 2-0 Nagano Nojima 10-2 Fukuyama Rosas Chifure 7-0 Shimizu fc Cerezo 3-3 (PK 4-5) Mynabi Jef 4-0 Ehime Ohita 0-8 Urawa Menina 13-0 Vi Amaterasu Solfiore Sakuyo 3-1 Club Fields Linda
These results give me the impression that in a few years time the gap in skill level between amateur teams and WE league teams will widen. Good in some ways but it might make it harder for the WE league to expand?
Happy New Year to all.....(bit late... tree fell on my abode... took out internet...just got it back)
Today’s result: All Japan University Tournament semifinal Toyo 5-0 Kibi Yamanashi Gakuin 3-1 Nichidai highlight 1

Wohoo Yamanashi through to the final. Watched both games (not live). The Yamanashi vs Nichidai game was more entertaining of the two. I was trying to follow Yamanashi in their uni league weekday games but as the evening draws in and the lights come on you cant see anything with the glare . Question. You mentioned Nittaidai have won this competition 20 or so times. Do Nittaidai have an advantage in this competition? It seems they can select players from their other squads. Having teams in Nadeshiko, Kanto and Juwfa leagues plus an Under 18 squad in the Kanagawa league would give them a massive player pool to select from.
I don't know the reason, but I guess that one reason could be low university women footballers in the past.
An article about Stina Johannes` experiences in Japan. https://frauen.eintracht.de/news/maximal-unabhaengig-am-anderen-ende-der-welt-146882
Today's result (2): Jumonji 1-1 (PK 3-1) Hinomoto This was a great game. Jumonji was technically superior, but Hinomoto's passing football was more threatening. Today's result (3): All Japan U-18 Tournament Inac 0-1 Nojima Chifure 2-1 Mynavi Jef 1-5 Urawa Menina 3-0 Solfiore Sakuyo
In my recomendatios was this Top 10 beautiful soccer players selected from Nadeshiko Japan Is there any surprise?
The one that I had under-rated is Sayaka Mitani from AC Nagano Parceiro Ladies. All of the other names are the kawaii usual suspects (most of them very popular since at least 2011 or 2012), that I could have guessed before even opening the YouTube video.
