It was quite obvious from @Lechus7's post, but it's worth mentioning that Roma won their match vs St.Pölten by 5-0 thus advancing to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Women's Champions' League; highlights: Japan has three players in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Womens' Champions' League: Moeka Minami (Roma), Saki Kumagai (Bayern München) and Mana Iwabuchi (Arsenal). This last one, though, is basically virtual, since it looks like Arsenal's coach wouldn't ever play her, not even in the most desperate emergency situation . Probably not even Vivianne Miedema's injury will be enough to see her on the pitch.
Today's result: Empress's Cup fourth round Mynavi (Yakata) 1-4 Beleza (Ueki 2, Kitamura, Kobayashi) Regina (Shiota) 1-0 Nippatsu Urawa (Naomoto, Sugasawa 2) 3-1 Nagano (Okutsu) Inac (Tanaka, Hamano) 2-1 Harima (Shinbori) Nojima (Matsumoto) 1-0 Sfida Chifure (Kishi, Nishikawa) 1-1 (ex. 1-0) Iga (Mori)
No real shocks there. My first time following this tournament round by round. It should be renamed to..'The WE League Invitation Cup' since 37 teams play for 5 places to face WE league teams. I watched the 4th round draw for the Womens FA Cup last Monday on the Hashtag United youtube channel. WSL enter + 20 winners from round 3 in a random draw. Hashtag, a 4th tier team (equivalent level to OSA Rhea) had 3 team members in the studio, all wanting to be drawn against a WSL team and play in a big stadium. I'm sure it's the same in Japan, the teams from lower down would love the chance to play a high level team. Only 5 teams do. Anyway, it is what it is
On a brighter note...Iga.... Probably her last appearance, Mitsuhashi Asuka got a few minutes play at the end in the second half of extra time.

4th round Empres's Cup Regina vs Nippatsu Albi vs Jef Urawa vs Nagano Mynavi vs Beleza Omiya vs Waseda Uni Remember the old days when highlights were 10 or 15 minutes or more? Those were the days
I've attempted to follow some of the 1st to 4th round Empress's Cup games on Twitter. Here's a list of some of the teams number of tweets/posts for a single game. Some of the games might have included extra time. OSA Rhea 0 Nagano 2 Omiya 5 Viama 8 Nippatsu 8 Nagoya 9 Ange 10 Iga 13 Nojima 13 Chifure 14 D Izumo 21 Orca 37 Fujizakura 64
Not very encouraging stats... but tbh If women's football in Japan wants to build bigger fan base for the future then my guess is it should try to reach thru Tik-Tok and Instagram as both platforms are the "voice" of the youngest generation.
I quite like following Viama on the player they use, though that could be chaotic if too many fans were commenting. Click for full size https://web.playerapp.tokyo/live/100337 I also think Youtube could be used to give a greater benefit to the amateur teams, Nadeshiko League teams. If the Nadeshiko channel only showed highlights and promotional videos, and the member teams be allowed to stream all their home and away games, but as a pay monthly youtube membership. The teams could also produce video blogs in the members section and squad member live chat in the off season, showroom?. With a 500JPY/month subscription example. 500JPY x 500 members x 12 months = 3,000,000JPY. Enough to have kept Ange alive? Some current Youtube subscription numbers with the channel creation date.....some really poor numbers 22,800 - Nadeshiko League (7/14) 16,500 - WE League (10/20) 7480 - Inac (3/17) 3920 - Nagano (7/16) 3320 - 7lechus 1840 - Mynavi (2/21) 1530 - Kyoto Tango Queens (4/12) 1180 - Nojima (1/13) 866 - Yokahama FC Seagulls (4/20) 813 - Shizuoka SSU Bonita (7/20) 805 - Chifure (3/20) 720 - Orca Kamogawa FC (11/17) 661 - Ange Violet Hiroshima (3/12) 589 - Yamato Sylphid (7/17) 443 - Lilywolf F Ishikawa (2/21) 400 - Iga FC Kunoichi Mie (5/17) 381 - SEISA OSA Rhea Shonan (7/20) 367 - Bunnys Gunma FC White Star (4/21) 372 - Sfida Setagaya FC (3/15) 301 - AS Harima Albion (11/18) 282 - Via Materasu Miyazaki (9/21) 251 - Norddea Hokkaido (10/12) 152 - Okayama Yunogo Belle (5/21) 91 - Veertien Mie Ladies (5/18) 36 - FC Fujizakura Yamanashi (11/22) → I was number 22 Lilywolf and OSA Rhea seem to promote themselves better than Iga, Setagaya and Harima. The teams should be utilizing every media tool available.

The fifth edition of the best 100 female footballers in the world according to the ''judges'' chosen by The Guardian is on. The countdown begins today with Nos 100-71. So far 92 Saki KUMAGAI 89 Hina SUGITA 73 Yui HASEGAWA I don't think any other Japanese players will be on the list. At least, they concede that : ''Perhaps it was the big summer move to Manchester City that has finally earned Hasegawa further appreciation within the game as the Japanese star breaks into the top 100 for the first time'' https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...100-best-female-footballers-in-the-world-2022 https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...100-best-female-footballers-in-the-world-2022

"Hasn't been a regular feature on the pitch for the Gunners" was quite the understatement from the commentator.

BBC TV Sports Personality of the Year....Beth Mead....viewers vote (Not a fan of WSL or Lionesses but imo it's a step in the right direction for recognition of womens football)

Moeka Minami going to start in Roma's WCL last game of the group stage in Prague (Roma already qualified ): Edit: actually Roma's coach decided to rest some players: he chose a three-women defense and he played Beata Kollmats instead of Moeka Minami.
