My last post to finish the season : if there is one thing in our club which is satisfactory and improving, it's the Academy/G2/signing our best young players to the first team. I don't know if DTK will stay and if the offseason will lead to a big overhaul, but in either way : don't touch to G2 and let Junior Gonzalez work. I've been impressed this season by how he got very good results with a young team. He didn't try to implement a possession style (too hard with very young players), but the team was effective going forward and manages to be dangerous with few chances. Next years will be interesting : can these young men be more dominant in USL and how many of them will have an impact with the first team? My awards for the 2020 season : MVP : 1) Williams 2) Romero 3) Vazquez Most improved player (since last season) : 1) Romero 2) Williams 3) Cuevas Biggest disappointment (this one is hard, none of the players had a bad season quite frankly) : 1) Jorge Hernandez 2) Saldana 3) Ferkranus Players who could sign for the first team next year : Augustine Williams and Jesus Vazquez. Add Romero if we didn't have a GK jam. Players who will probably have an impact with the first team in the next years : Mauricio Cuevas and Johnny Perez.
Will the Galaxy still have the G2 team in USL next year? There have been rumors that some or all the MLS teams will be moving to a reserve team or U23 team model playing only other MLS reserve/U23 teams.
Augustine Williams is called up to Sierra Leone for African Cup of Nations qualifiers: http://footballsierraleone.net/2020...step-up-in-my-career-says-augustine-williams/' The striker is looking forward to making his Sierra Leone debut against Nigeria in matchday three and four of the 2022 qualifiers.
Sierra Leone comes back from 4-0 down, 4-1 at HT, to tie 4-4...! Augie was on the bench, but, didn't play.
"We are committed to the USL and playing in the Championship next year. We have found that that competition is the right level for our kids coming up and we're seeing the improvement. ...Our commitment is there." ~ Chris Klein, Press Conference, Nov. 11th, 2020
I like this decision for Los Dos to stay in the USL Championship. this screen shot from the USL website shows several teams are not more than one time zone away in distance. People within the leadership ranks of the USL have stated that the league will become more regional and it makes good business sense for that to happen. This cluster of teams is a good example of a regional "division" for the league, along with Tacoma and Sacramento .
Strikers FC Irvine @strikersirvine 4h Congrats to former Strikers FC youth player Victor Valdez on signing with LA Galaxy II
