I noticed Fukumoto was shortlisted for women's player of the year but Solo was not. Does this mean pundits now think Fukumoto is the best keeper in the world?
Best keeper in the world is Kaihori and she wasn't in the list lasy year, I don't care what people think, THIS IS NOT FAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Meanwhile looks like Aya Miyama is AFC Player of the Year 2012, because Ogimi couldn't attend. I mean, I am happy for Aya, but AFC should consider changing the rules or (since it's understandable that they want the player to officially receive the award) choose a better timing and/or location that actually give the players the best chance to attend...
(Oh, by the way, it doesn't directly regard us Nadeshiko fans, but if you give a look to the POTY 2012 thread, a fuzz is raising high, because, guess what? Marta is in top 3 for POTY 2012, again! [And Sinclair isn't ])
Sawa's victory last year seemed to give the FIFA award a little credibility, but as we can all see, it also didn't take that long for things to go back to normal either, making her success a major anomaly, and not the norm . I still hope there will be a female version of the old styled men's Ballon D'Or vote, which was of course always separate from FIFA's clumsy affair, but then again does the women's scene have a modern version of the France Football magazine to make it a reality?
Well they have... Big Soccer threads! What about WE give away a BSBO (Big Soccer's Ballon d'Or)? Well, ok, it won't be actually made of gold... I guess we can afford... brass? ... paper-mache? -_-"
What's Marta doing in the final three? I think that it was a long shot for those three Japanese players to get to into the final three this year. I don't think any of them were deserved this year to be honest. But surely there are other players who made more impact than Marta this year... I can't wait to see the list of who voted whom. Is it because there are so many nations that can't be bothered about women's football and probably the only name they know is Marta....
Yes, but she wasn't even in the short list (or long list rather), was she? I thought that Sawa, Miyama and Fukumot were the ones nominated. Ogimi was nominated for only AFC.
She wasn't because the award is based on reputation rather than performances but she was definitely a top 3 player this year.
Iwabuchi says that Usami's wife is such a good cooker that she will go there to eat in a pinch. They say that the period of her contract is one year and half and if the team isn't promoted it will introduce the other team in the first division to her.
Do you use that exact picture, because I do have a higher-resolution original of it. I reduced its quality for the Internet, so if you want a better one let me know. Tomorrow's weather in Sendai: Wind. Sleet. Cold. Perfect for the Hokkaido girls.
Assuming Ohno and Kinga find European clubs that would mean 4 FW, 1 MF and 2DF from Japan in Europe. Is that a good set of ratios for a strong NT?
In my opinion Miyama deserved the AFC award. Yes she wasn't in top form at the Olympics, but she was still Japan's best field player and unlike Ogimi she was excellent at the Kirin Cup and Algarve Cup earlier this year. I'm a bit sad that Fukumoto wasn't voted at least into the top three; she had an outstanding season which included clean sheets against INAC, Brazil, the US, and Sweden twice. Unlike Kaihori who didn't really do anything important this year, she had no small part in Belle finishing third behind only Beleza and INAC, and she also was the hero of Japan's semifinal win over France with her incredible saves.
Building up to a big weekend... Nittaidai goalkeeper Yamamoto Arisa, no stranger to Sendai as she studied at Tokiwagi. Ito Minako takes the ball forward in the first half against the well-organised Nittaidai defence. Toriyabe Kozue made an impression in just her first start. Another former Sendai schoolgirl, she studied at Seiwa. Uemura Shoko on the ball, Nittaidai's top scorer this year. No. 9 is Ishii Chiharu, who turns 19 on Christmas Day. Oguri Mao (no. 8) was impressive in midfield, as she has been all season. Sunday morning's game features JSCL's most wanted:
Well, actually Ogimi was good at Algarve Cup (where she started deserving high recognition on this thread too, and definitely reached the final stage of her tactical change of play in NT) and quite outstanding in Kirin Cup vs Brazil.

I think Kaihori is not an unknown name I was talking of last year list, not this year, why Fukumoto in 2012 and not Kaihori in 2011? That's my question.
