Same thing that happens when any other Japanese fads run their course ... dry up, blow away and end up popular in the U.S. two years later.
I) I think that goes Reysol-Chicago-DCU. II) I was thinking more along the lines of Iron Chef, Outlaw Star, The Ring, etc. Can't wait for the day when those talking toilets with the electronically-warmed seats make their way over here....
LOL.... Remmber the "Tamagocchi" i was once hooked into that toy for while (I was a kid) and I forgot about it, but that wasn't long. I came to the US and it was popular here for while too. and for Stoitchkov, that's what i meant.
Ladies in Japan will be disappointed to learn that Ilhan cut his hair. Also, the league finalized its plans for (temporarily) adding two teams to J1 to make an 18-team division. The top 2 J2 teams will have automatic qualification while the last-place J1 team and the 3rd place team in J2 will play in a 2-legged playoff. This format makes sense given how competitive the top J2 teams are and there won't be a championship series starting in 2005.
There are some discussion that after this season (from 2005), the top two J2 clubs and the last two J1 clubs (17th and 18th) will switch, and at the same time the 16th J1 club and the 3rd J2 club will have a home-and-home playoff series. This playoff will replace the Santory Championship.
Fad? We'll see how long this lasts. When was the last time that there this much hype over a foreign player?
I heard Kobe sold out their first home game already............ Well at least the Maeuriken or whatever............. Still with his new haircut its gonna be hard to tell which one is Kazu and which is Ilhan, oh I know, I will look for the one who is missing then I will know who is who.
LOL missing shots you're referring to?? But in all honesty I hope he does well (for the sake of media hype) but when he plays my beloved Marinos,I hope they shut him down like a corrupt pachinko bar!! (he'll need more than just one shrine visit for good luck, no? pardon my naive competitiveness) BTW what's with Emerson hinting on "turning Japanese"? http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/hochi/soccer/feb/o20040229_60.htm
check out the new and evolved J-league web site: www.j-league.or.jp It is lot better than it used to be.
it's legit.............. well, the Japanese version is. I'm still waiting for a complete English and/or Spanish version as well. BTW what are the team slogans for this year???
They never will. They don't need to. I mean in Japan, there only few foreigner and people from other country don't really care about J League. It's in the site, check carefully on the right hand side. They just update the slogans on march 5. It's under "This year's goals for each club" or "Kotoshi kurabuga mezasukoto" section. Tomorrow is 2004 Xerox Super Cup. The game is between YOKOHAMA F Marinos (2003 J League Champ) vs Jublio IWATA (2003 Emperor's Cup Winner) The league matches start next week. I will post the game schedule latter. I just don't feel like posting them right now. Also I was wondering, where is LiveInYokohama?
I woke up and found the link to the page of slogans (albeit the cheating way, using the url text which were in English i.e. challenge). BTW will Ilhan be a bust like Bebeto was??

You know it's the start of the J-League season when Consadole Sapporo supporters come out to shovel the snow off the pitch. For those of you who aren't familiar with Sapporo, the team plays in the Sapporo Dome, but the pitch slides out so the grass can grow outside, and Sapporo gets almost 5m (16ft) of snow a year, http://www.2002world.com/column/sapporo_m/2004/040308_sasada008.html (jp)
J-League All-Time Best XI as chosen by supporters: http://www.jsgoal.jp/11memories/best.html -----------------Gon Nakayama-------Dragan Stojkovic --Shunsuke Nakamura------Hidetoshi Nakata----------Shinji Ono ----------------------Hiroshi Nanami---------Dunga -----------Naoki Matsuda----Masami Ihara----Yutaka Akita -------------------------Seigo Narazaki No Rui Ramos or Zico?
Am suprised about Ramos, though I think Zico was in Japan too short of playing time, and the fact that some people aren't happy with him right now. Still, that is one hell of a lineup. Where is Linaker? Guess he wasn't around long enough either....... Just glad no one said Maezono or Kitazawa..........
Yeah, it's a weird list. The 3 attacking midfielders are going to spend most of their careers outside of Japan - Ono, I can understand because of what he meant to Urawa, but it's hard to think of Nakata as a J-League player and the same is going to be true for Nakamura soon. And Narazaki is the top keeper? It should've been a 4-4-2, with Soma and Narahashi as wingbacks. Here are the voting results: http://www.jsgoal.jp/11memories/bestfinish.html FYI, Rui Ramos came in 10th among midfielders, followed by Morishima, who should really be in there instead of Nakata. Hell, I would've picked Cesar Sampaio ahead of Nakata. BTW, Kitazawa came in 19th and Maezono came in 22nd.
