Given expectations, she was much better than Amy.

Indeed. I think she benefited from ARod not meeting expectations. She also, imo, benefited from having played pro ball before.

I am a huge Tomecka fan (shocking, I'm sure). I thought she'd have a chance to make a run at the starting dmid position but then Osborne signed w/ the Breakers.

Former Husker Anna Caniglia has earned a chance to play at the next level, as she has been invited to the Boston Breakers pre-season training camp in March.

The Omaha, Neb., native was a standout defender and midfielder for Nebraska the past four seasons. Although Caniglia was not selected in the 2010 Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) Draft last week, she will attempt to gain a roster spot via the month-long camp.

Caniglia's teammate, Carly Peetz, will also be in camp after she was selected by the Breakers in the sixth round. Former Husker Christine Latham is currently on the Breakers' roster

    Andrea Willis
    Defender
    5-7, Sr.
    Riverside, CA

PROVO, Utah (January 27, 2010) - After finishing her senior season as a BYU Cougar, Andrea Willis is now looking to play at a professional level with a team in the Women's Professional Soccer league.

The WPS is the highest level of women’s professional soccer league in North America and was formed in 2007 from efforts of the Women's Soccer Initiative, Inc. The organization consists of seven teams across the country.

The Boston Breakers is one of those seven teams and has shown interest in Willis after she became a free agent.

"It's going to be a great oppportunity to go out there and play with the team," Willis said, "and to show them what I can do and see if I'd e a good fit in Boston."

I know we're limited to 28 invitees to training camp...we've got to be getting close to that number now...

That sucks - I heard she did really well in Europe during the off season and was looking forward to seeing her play again this year. She was very nice to all the fans when Boston came down to play the Freedom last year. I found this article about it with a couple of quotes:

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...titude-is-as-healthy-as-ever?just_published=1

Hopefully Boston will be able to put her on injured reserve (or something similar) so she can rehab around the team. That is what the Freedom were able to do with Sarah Huffman last year. I hope she has a successful surgery and speedy recovery.

Crap, this sucks. Nobis is one of my favorites, I loved her agressiveness, and she featured in some of my personal highlights of Breakers 2009, especially the time she levelled one of the opponents right in front of the Dock. And then there was the time that she got red carded after winning a legitimate 50/50 ball.

    Ah, Jenny, we'll miss you!

I happened to catch her at an early NCAA round against Stanford this year. Solid defender. She and other defenders held Stanford to one goal until late in the game when BYU pushed everyone up in an attempt to tie things up. Could be a pleasant surprise at camp.
