OK...I'll throw this one out there for speculation.

We need help up front. Diego Serna is at practice 'observing'. Hmmm.

    Discuss, colleagues.

    See you all Saturday.

    Yup, here is a picture.

We do need the help but can he still score? Can Diego be the answer?

I'm surprised they let him anywhere near the team after what happened.

Serna signed with Miami FC in 2009, and he started off hot scoring some goals, but by midseason his form fell off, and then he made a trip to Brazil without telling the team(supposedly) and was released.

I'd rather Traffic go to Brazil and bring a promising scorer from Brazil's second division.

I know this is the inuagural Striker season and all, but I wonder if it would be better to let the young players out there to play and learn from the experience. At least by next year we'd have a savy crop of young players that we can build on. Playing all these late 30s guys and getting zero production isn't looking out for the future of the team. By next year are we going to bring in a new crop of 30+ guys again?

Or bring someone from Ituana they want to develop like what they did with Afonso.

Or just bring back Afonso. Loved that guy.

This is how minor league soccer works. You can't rely on too many young players because they make mistakes. And you can't really count on them for the future, because if they are any good, they quickly move on to better leagues and you have to replace them anyway. It's a cycle when you are a minor league team. So you have to rely a lot on a few older players who aren't quite good enough for MLS, but can be a top players in D2. They are your stars. And then combine them with a few young future MLS players to have a good balance.

But it shows you how hard it is to find a striker.

I actually would love to see Walter Gaitán end up here. It's sad to see him playing in front of 400 people for the LA Blues. He isn't ancient at 34 compared to Serna. His problem is injuries. A good playmaker can sometimes make someone into a good striker. See Valderrama and Roy Lassiter.

Jossed is right. We have to accept that we are a feeder club, at this point. So we are constantly going to have to develop younger players only to watch them leave. But at least if we develop them, we can sell them off to keep afloat and finance the development of the next crop.

That's what I was thinking as well. We could at least recoup the cost of developing their talent.

I have posted this already a few times, Walter Gaitan deserves a lot better than 3rd division soccer in the USA

I am making a sign that says "FREE DIEGO SERNA". Lots of players all over the world are still playing at his age. Preki was 39 when he was leading the Fusion to the supporters shield.

Serna is washed up. He did not impress during his Miami FC stint.

Once again...he can still bring it, and has many golasos left in those gorgeous legs of his !!!

His trip WAS APPROVED by the team and Zinho (2 or 3 coaches ago), and he WAS NEVER in breach of contract. He only had a six month contract which the team declined to renew. They were rumored to be folding along with USSF2, which luckily carried on for 2010. Miami FC needed his roster spot for signing Gale, the USA player, whom they sold to Europe and infused their team with immediate cashflow.

He loves the club and was excited to see them take the Strikers name honoring the legacy of South Florida soccer.
