Now with the two guys who were the first two choice as captain this past year gone, I'm assuming that the man with the worst hangover in recorded history, our Ben Olsen, will be captain next year? Is there even anyone else who would get any type of consideration? Moreno? Certainly has the gravitas, but is he a vocal leader? Rimando? Vocal, yes. Gravitas, maybe not. Petke? Could we allow someone who once played for the Metros to be our captain (although I guess we have accepted him as our wanker)? Dema? Has a team ever had a complete psychopath as captain?
yeah it has to be. i mean olsen even had the balls to get infront of Hristo when he was pissed. thats captain material
The idea of El Diablo and ABMOD screaming at the ref is priceless. I'm sure he heard things in two languages that he never heard, or thought was physically possible, before that day.
With Nellie and Stewart now gone (or nearly gone), there is a tremendous leadership void to fill. I think it's time for Olsen and Petke to fill those roles on the team.
i think olsen should get the nod as cap because he's earned it. as deputy i would put moreno just cause he's the next choice. going into the future however id like to see namoff as our cap.
Like I said in the Nelsen thread look who's being shopped around by the toxic waste up north, our former Captain himself http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/players/bio.jsp?team=met&player=pope_e&playerId=pop177981 Olsen, Moreno, Pope, any of 'em could be Captain IMO
In my mind, the captain should be the hardest working and toughest guy on your team. With Nellie gone, Olsen takes up that mantel. I think Petke could do it, but as Olsen wore the armband whenever Nellie and Stewart were out, its gotta be Benny. As for Moreno...I have nothing against him, but I never really like forwards being captains (or keepers for that matter). They are often too far removed from the action to really influence their teammates or the ref.
If we weren't coming up on WC qualifying, I would say that a return might make sense. Then again, Eddie isn't a natural organizer - making him a bad fit in a 3-back system - and I wonder what we would have to give up to get him. Isn't it amazing to think how much better that Pope-Moreno-Petke deal worked out for us, particularly when you think of its cap effects? They gave up on Jaime and we got him back completely revitalized, we got a class player and guy in Petke, and the Mutts now have the worst defense in the league. Olsen is the obvious choice, BTW, with Petke a close second.
On the otherside... if we gave Dema the armband it would actually give him a semi-legitimate excuse to flip out on a ref (Worked for Etch ) Hell, if he breaks a REF's leg even Dallas fans may learn to like him
Olsen! Moreno needs to stay focused upon the attack not getting in the ref's face for the typical crappy calls that MLS Refs bring us.
Actually, on second thought, I think that the Freddy would be a mature and sedate presence on the field. Adu for Cap't! (just a joke)
