How will NYCFC immediately be bigger than NYRB? Bigger names? Who is a bigger name than Henry was? That's a really really short list. Way more money? Um, salary cap dude. More media? Why? I love delusion.
You realize that is what JK is attempting to do at RSL, right? For all intents and purposes, he started from scratch when he became the first RSL player.
Lots of pro´s and con´s on this thread..Good! Can we agree on "ambition" being the keyword here? Ambition comes in many forms of course, but if we assume that Yankees and Man City do have big plans for NYCFC..God knows they both got a track record for spending big to reach the top, and there will be all kinds of glamour added by glitzy marketing teams etc. I think he was over in the U.K not only to meet the top brass..but that he was given the royal treatment, access to players, small talk about infrastructure/stadium, discussions with coaches, Soriano telling amusing stories about his time as CEO at Barcelona over a glass of wine etc etc. All of it to make him feel a part of the family in a way. That´s a kind of sales pitch hard to disregard.
Are you kidding me? Let me show you one line that SCREAMED right out to me. I'm now more convinced than ever that he's already decided to leave. Ok here's what he said: "That's exactly where I have been and that's where I will continue to be...... UNTIL THE END OF THE SEASON." "....UNTIL THE END OF THE SEASON....." That's what he says after meeting with MCFC? He's gone.
Well, not for certain. If would be a great negotiating stance if he prefers to stay but needs them to match an offer or whatever.
Pretty sure RSL's owner already said publicly that they would match whatever NYCFC offered so, again, why would he toss in that last little bit? He's gone.
Out-of-towners...lol. Just like those foolish people from all over the world actually who thought the (fake) Cosmos revival was going to blowup in the metro area. They better be prepared to fight to build a fanbase here. We've got ours, everyone else starts from scratch.
You know what? It's not exactly "news" anymore that NYCFC is joining the league in 2015. This thread was meant to discuss their entry and ownership, and there's not much new ground to cover there. Certainly not enough to warrant keeping this thread open for another year and a half. I think if there's any further personnel moves and hires, they can be addressed elsewhere. Closed.
I have a better idea, move it to the NYC expansion forum: https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/forums/new-york-city.1273/
