Welp, so much for the hope that she would move to Los Angeles and take the ACFC gig. I'm starting to get impatient with my club team. Why are they taking forever in selecting their hires when San Diego has practically their whole staff set?
You know I was expecting that old coach that just took over would be the permanent replacement since they won that game against Kansas.
the coaching hires for the new San Diego NWSL team and the OL Reign put even more pressure on Angel City FC to hire a woman for their head coaching job
Yeah, for all the lead time ACFC had, it looks like all they've done so far are get some sponsorships and a logo. Of course, they still have plenty of time... but it is getting long. San Diego is doing well with staff, but their biggest question mark was their stadium issue, which hasn't shown any time of finding a permanent solution yet. They don't need the stadium ready any time soon, but they do need that plan assured ASAP because stadiums don't materialize out of thin air easily.
I don't see why it should. Weren't there reports that Eniola Aluko was interviewing Paul Riley's assistant, Sean Nahas? Angel City wouldn't rule out Paul Riley or Vlatko Andonovski just for being guys. They're not available. Why would they rule out their assistants?
One pro for potentially getting Nahas in the wake of Harvey & Stoney: he's American in a league that is really low on American coaches. ofc it's low on women coaches too, but with Harvey & Stoney added in addition to Coombe, we're lower on American (just Dames) than on women. (No reason ACFC can't get an American woman to deal with both issues either, I guess.)
Time for ACFC to hire Amanda Cromwell. She’s an American right? And as far as July 15, 2021, she’s a woman? I’ll sacrifice the awesomeness of UCLA for ACFC, though I want them to be both successful programs.

And apparently Thursday is the day for NWSL news! In addition to the big trade and coaching poach reported in the Player Moves thread, it looks like the NWSLPA is launching a new campaign to significantly raise the minimum contract annual value: New campaign from the #NWSL Players Association just dropped. Notable: "NWSLPA will not wait another decade to achieve fair contracts, equal pay, professional playing conditions." https://t.co/WQVCzIPExh— Meg Linehan (@itsmeglinehan) July 22, 2021 https://nomoresidehustles.com/
Courage: 1) have four players away at the Olympics 2) just traded 3 players for 1 3) just had 2 players test positive for Covid-19 with 2 more isolating due to contact I have looked at the injury list, but that puts them down 10 players. They've got a game in just over two hours. NWSL competition rules state that a team must name 18 players to its match day roster. The Courage have 15 warm bodies. Game is still on per NWSL message.
https://equalizersoccer.com/2021/07/28/the-lowdown-nwsl-expansion-draft-rules-angel-city-san-diego/ The Lowdown: NWSL Expansion Draft rules finally coming to light There has never been a National Women’s Soccer League game played in California. That will change next spring when Angel City FC and the as yet unbranded club in San Diego enter the fray as expansion clubs. The teams have been busy making front office hires and San Diego already has a head coach, former English international and Manchester United manager Casey Stoney. And as reported here and elsewhere, Angel City have been in negotiations with Racing Louisville about acquiring Christen Press. But what about the expansion draft? The 2021 NWSL Expansion Draft is expected to happen Dec. 16. That is less than five months away. And no one seems to know what the rules are. The National Hockey League has far more complex roster and salary scenarios, but that league’s recent expansion draft had its rules in place more than two years ahead of time. An NWSL spokesperson confirmed that Expansion Draft rules were an agenda item during a Tuesday board meeting. Other sources confirmed that the rules were passed and teams will be permitted to protect nine players, and possibly as few as one U.S allocated player among those. From the remaining contracted players, each expansion club would be allowed to select one per team. It was not immediately clear if teams could pull back additional players after losing their first. There is also a twist. Kansas City will not be subjected to losing any players to this round of expansion. That clause was negotiated into the agreement when the Longs purchased the franchise vacated by Utah Royals FC.
Nearly a month later, and NWSL finally announces that it has reached a settlement on the Moultrie/antitrust issue: https://www.nwslsoccer.com/news/nwsl-announces-settlement-of-antitrust-litigation
