    http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/23042008/4/martins-set-new-magpies-deal.html

Martins is apparently close to signing a new deal with the club for £90,000 a week. I think he's on £80,000 now. I think he's still got two years left on his current deal... but I could be wrong.

Anyone else think he looked frustrated when he came off? The piece also mentions that there is no "Get Out Clause"... is WKL writing for eurosport now?

When I pull up News Now it as I am supporting a completely different club. Positive attitudes, players pledging futures, signing new contracts (although that doesn't necessarily mean anything i.e. Nzogbia).

I just hope the positive attitude doesnt crumble like it did coming out of Roeder"s care taker roll. We went on a terrific run with him at the end of the season, then it went to Hell in a hand basket 2 months into the following year.

Let's hope you didn't just put the jinx on us by mentioning the unmentionable. If it does, I'll know where to focus my wrath :)

    Thx,

Not really NUFC news but Mike Ashley has been listed at no. 54 on the Sunday Times Rich List with a fortune estimated at £1.4bn, down from 25th place last year, and strangely back to where he was in 2006.

The reason for his loss of wealth has more to do with the current stock market situation than with his buying of NUFC and a few rounds in Blu Bambu.

    Mike Ashley Get's Rich

Alright so he's already filthy f*cking rich........but read the story linked below.

    http://deadspin.com/386939/newcastle-owner-now-slightly-richer

Newcastle have been on quite a run as of late, and Mike Ashley is taking full advantage. The club's billionaire owner recently strolled into his local casino (note to self: move to England) and had a seat at the roulette wheel, the greatest table game of them all. Ashley decided to make the boldest bet of all, known as a "complete", on his favorite number, 17. For those unfamiliar this bet entails placing a maximum wager on the number itself, each of the four corners, as well as the splits on every number touching the centermost betting square. He then proceeded to plop chips down on black, odd, and first 18 for a total bet of £480,000 ($945,984). Guess what happened...
Divorcee Mr Ashley watched impassively as the roulette wheel turned. As the ball dropped into slot 17, the expectant crowd broke out into loud applause. Mr Ashley calmly looked up at the croupier and said: "That'll do me, thanks very much," and walked off with his winnings. He had spent just 15 minutes at the table.
He won nearly £1.3 million ($2.5 million)

    Re: Mike Ashley Get's Rich

I read about that in the papers on Sunday. Funny how his favourite number is 17.. is that why he wore the Smith shirt? or is his favourite number 17 because of Smith?

I hope he doesn't do that every week... KK's transfer budget ending up in the Grosvenor.

Re: NUFC Appoints New Deputy Chairman

Big deal. He will probably never see the football side of the club and just work the hospitality side. If that means more cash for the club, then I am all for it.

    Agreed Jared.

This is a move that is completely backroom operations. A guy with a great record in the Entertainment/Hospitality industry could be a great addition to the business end of the club.

Mort has made it clear that they've laid the foundations for a club with better customer service, community outreach, etc. So why not bring in people that specialize in such fields?

Yeah I also noticed this from the same article

How is this conflict? What the f*ck would be the point in having people employed to scout for players and coming back with a list of established internationals??? (although my scouts on FM do that:rolleyes:)

"Here's a little known player Kev, he's called Shawn Wright-Phillips"
"I know he played for me at City."

FWIW football365.com pretty much called out the Daily Mail for pulling shite out of their ass in regards to that article.

I bet that already happend.:D Wise:"Hey Kev take a look at this Youtube footage of Gary Coleman let's sign him!"

KK:"That's not Arnold Drummond that's SWP you cockney muppet!"

Jimenez: "Hey guys, this Ronaldo character might be worth a look."

Because if Keegan wants to bring in more washed up top-four players (read, Smith, Duff, Babayaro, Butt, Geremi, Parker, Owen) he needs to have Wize and Jimenez to smack him in the head and say "that's how we got here in the first place".

If someone hasn't started 75% of all games for a top-four team this past year, we don't need him. End of story.

    Thx,

    Jay!

Loads of stories that KK has been "summoned" by Ashley to explain his comments the other day about the top 4. It remains to be seen if this is actually a "showdown" as the reports are putting it. The meeting is to take place on Friday.

I don't know where these rumours of KK and Wise not liking each other come from... they seemed to when KK was picking him for England.

    Calm yersel doon son :D

Storm in a teacup I reckon.. Wise isn't going to be our next manager and KK isn't about to be given the boot. Nobody actually knows what the purpose of the meeting is, hopefully its about transfers and what the next step is over the summer. Hopefully Ashley will just say what I've just said to you.

Edit: KK's Press conference today http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid958992159/bctid1543275582

Ashley wouldn't dare sack Keegan. He'd never be welcome on Tyneside again.

Per the club site, youngster Wesley Ngo Baheng will be out 10-12 months with a cruciate ligament injury.

And, scuttlebutt is that Fat Sam is in the running for the newly-vacant QPR hotseat. And he thought the Toon had delusions of grandeur?

David Edgar was a judge in the Miss Newcastle 2008 competition. I'm sure he didn't have an ulterior motive. (link doesn't contain any pictures of Edgar... but I'm sure you won't be too disappointed.)
