I don't think its just an Italian way, but a world way. For example... Juve are clearly the greatest team in the history of Italian football.... and the most hated. Italy are arguably the greatest national team in football.... and one of the most hated. A lot of people in general hate greatness unless its happening for them.
Who in Italy hasn't cheated the government or for that matter cheated on their taxes? Everyone involved in any type of business from commerce , government, merchants, tv, sport or any other types of fame not only in Italy but in most of the modern world is corrupt. If you think that any of these types of people have made millions legitimately and/or by the book, then you are just fooling yourself. I worked and lived there and saw it on a daily basis and it was an acceped way of life and practice. Ma stiamo scherzando qui? Mi meraviglio di cosa si discute! Cambiamo discorso!
