Today Norway named the squad for their friendly match against Germany that will be played in Grimstad, Norway September 14. Two of Norway's top players, goalkeeper Bente Nordby and midfielder Solveig Gulbrandsen, who missed the July friendlies against the U.S. and Canada, have both been added to this team. One of Norway's top scoring threats, Dagny Mellgren, who missed the July friendlies against the U.S. is also on this team. Here is Norway's complete squad with each player's current club team included: Goalkeepers: Bente Nordby Kolbotn Astrid Johannessen Fulham Ingeborg Hovland Klepp Defenders: Cecilie Berg-Hansen Kolbotn Gunhild Følstad Trondheims-Ørn Marianne Paulsen Arna-Bjørnar Brit Sandaune Trondheims-Ørn Ane Stangeland Klepp Anne Tønnessen Kolbotn Midfielders/Forwards: Solveig Gulbrandsen Kolbotn Lise Klaveness Asker Monica Knudsen Asker Kristine Edner Røa Ingrid Camilla Fosse Sæthre Arna-Bjørnar Unni Lehn Carolina Courage Dagny Mellgren Boston Breakers Anita Rapp New York Power Hege Riise Carolina Courage Trine Rønning Trondheims-Ørn Leni Larsen Kaurin Asker 2. september 2002 - TOPPSERIEN.COM _______________________________________ Carolina Courage 2002 WUSA Double Winners
Television Coverage of Norway - Germany Friendly Does anyone know if there will be any television coverage of this match in either Norway or Germany?
Friendly In Norway there will be live coverage on NRK. I think it's NRK1. I guess here in Germany they will be ignoring the match and one can be happy to find out the result somewhere.
Live Television Coverage In Norway Thank you very much for this information. I thought that NRK would probably provide live coverage since this match against Germany is the featured women's match during this year's celebration of the Norwegian Football Federation's 100 year anniversary.
Re: Tape Since I have over a week to contact some of my "fotball" friends in Norway, I can probably find at least two people to tape it for me. If I am successful I will send you a PM with my e-mail address and make arrangements for you to receive a copy of the match. Since you are in Germany you won't even have to convert the tape from PAL to NTSC like I will have to do.
Germany's Squad Too bad that the German media doesn't pay much attention to women's soccer, especially since Germany has one of the top women's teams in the world. When I want to get information about Norwegian women's soccer I go to the websites "toppserien.com" or "fotball.no." Is there a German website I can go to for information about Germany's squad for this friendly against Norway?
http://www.dorisfitschen.de Since Doris Fitschen left the Charge to join the German Federation, go to her website and contact her about which sites would be best. kicker.de and dfb.de have brief notes mail@dorisfitschen.de is the e-mail address listed on the site
Thanks! I just took a quick look at the two German sites, but didn't see anything about the women's friendly against Norway. I hate to bother Doris Fitschen if the information is already posted somewhere else, but if I can't find it after a few days, I'll try to contact Doris.
Information I would say dfb.de is the right address to get some information about the team. They normally post the team several days before the game. It's either in the news section or in the section for the womens team.
Re: Information Thats Woody-99 and thanks for your e-mail! What is the most direct way to get to the section for the women's team? I found something called DFB-Pokal Frauen, but it looks like this is the schedule for the German Cup.
Info You're right. DFB-Pokal is the german cup. The team is under the section Nationalmannschaft. But if you look on the upper right of the front page, there is a link for the english version.
You can get the german dfb.de site in English by using the English selection on the right side of the main screen. Frauen is Women in German. There's NOT much info there. fff.fr the French site has a full listing of call-ups for both Denmark and France, but it's all in French. The also had a match story a couple hours following the recent France-Denmark WC match in Lens. The 9/15 match in Odense might take longer to get onto their site. thefa.com the English site has some info with a ton on the U-19's. Id expect the Iceland-England match to have a good write-up. as well as BBC.com And Doris job is to promote German Womens football, so I expect she'd be really happy to provide any news possible. And her English is excellent too.
I think they took a little more time than usual this time to get it up, but now the German squad can be found at http://www.dfb.de 19 players have been named, among them 4 goalkeepers (!), i.e. the uncapped youngsters Ursula Holl and Nadine Richter joining the experienced Rottenberg and Angerer. Two more uncapped players are Bianca Rech and Katrin Kliehm, both from 1.FFC Frankfurt. The most notable absence is Birgit Prinz, of course. I guess she gets a break, since she played the WUSA season and is supposed to play again for Frankfurt soon (she also didn't play this weekend in Frankfurt's 2-2 draw against Wolfsburg). But the BL games seemed to indicate that all her striker colleagues are in good shape: Conny Pohlers scored once, Martina Müller twice, and Inka Grings did a hattrick. So hopefully the German attack still has something to offer. In defense, basically the complete central defense must be replaced, because Nia Künzer and Ariane Hingst are not there. The only two experienced defenders, Sandra Minnert and Kerstin Stegemann, will have to help their younger teammates Kerstin Garefrekes, Madleen Wilder, Christina Zerbe and Rech (none has more than 7 caps) to shoulder the burden. The midfield can present its top formation, Lingor, Wiegmann, Omilade and Pia Wunderlich.
http://www.fff.fr/selections/femA/31260.shtml http://www.fff.fr/selections/femA/32144.shtml 1st link is the French selections 2nd link is the Danish selections for Denmark-France 2nd leg of WC qualifying on Sunday. France leads 2-0 and whomever advances plays either Iceland or England, who start their leg play next Monday.... one of these 4 get to go to China
German Goalkeepers Thanks for this information KarlMai. The roster I am looking at only shows the two goalkeepers Rottenberg and Angrerer. Was there something else mentioned in a separate article about Holl and Richter? I'm also not familiar with the names of the players listed under Auf Abruf and was wondering if you could tell me what Auf Abruf means. Thanks! (Danke?)
Thanks for the translation Adam. I also appreciate the information about the Denmark-France WC qualifying playoff. I wonder if it might be a good idea for you to start a new thread for further information about this playoff so that it doesn't get buried in this Norway - Germany friendly thread?
Re: German Goalkeepers No, it must have been a simple mistake, and that's why they corrected it. Adam already said what "Auf Abruf" means, so thanks to him. Btw, although I am not too familiar with the names of the at-call-players myself, I am confident that could change in the next years^^... four of these five have been part of the U 19 WC team for Germany that won the bronze medal, and Linda Bresonik got named for the All star team of that tournament. She was also (with just 17 years) a member of the European Champion squad in 2001, so she is the best-known of these players, I'd say.
Since my dad was in the military and a spent 8 years growing up, it's nice I could remember some German. Seeing the words is a lot easier than hearing the sounds. We're monitoring the progress of the UEFA WC fixtures in the Charge forum, since the Charge are affected by 3 of the 4 teams partcipating. Smith, currently rehabbing for England Karvellson for Iceland, who also is rehabbing, and could play in October. And finally Pichon.
I'm assuming here that you meant to say that you lived in Germany for 8 years when you were growing up. That is great that you still remember some German. I recognize a few German words because they are similar to their Norwegian equivalents. It is also a lot easier for me to recognize written Norwegian than spoken although listening to "fotball" matches broadcast on the internet is helping some. Perhaps in 10-15 years I will finally become fluent in Norwegian.
Yes, trying to get to the next idea, surely does leave the first idea incomplete. But bright people can catch my intentions...no matter how poorly I present them.
Charge Forum O.K. - I'll have to take a look there. BTW - since the "Great BS Crash" that wiped out all of the posts, I'd have to say that IMO the Charge Forum has consistently been the best WUSA:Team Forum as far as posting good solid information about the WUSA and women's soccer goes. So how is Kelly Smith doing? I'm also wondering what happened to that other Icelandic player the Charge had, wasn't her name Olafsdottir or something close to that?
Olafsdottir is back in Iceland. Basically Pichon replaced her as a foreign player. And the reports I have about Kelly Smith, are 2nd hand from people sitting in front of me, and they report she's healing well. There are a lot of serious soccer fans, who tend to post on Big Soccer, and we get a good variety of serious talk. There's about 10 season ticket holders who post good stuff, and there's a lot more who are knowledgeable who don't. Charge have done a good job marketing soccer, not just womens soccer to PTH.
I was impressed with Olafsdottir the few times I saw her play last season, but I'm not going to argue about who you got to replace her. I take it that Karvellson (or is it Karvelsson?) is Icelandic-American since along with Pichon and Smith, the Charge have two Chinese players. Also, if she was 100% Icelandic, I believe her name would have to be Karveldottir.
