Friedel'sAccent bungadiri shouldn't we have a thread title change? My two cents... No Peace at Augsburg: Parkhurst fights relegation
And while we're at it, could somebody fix the problems with the Wikipedia entry on the Peace of Augsburg?
Here is a brief review of the end of the old thread. 1. Parkhurst has signed a contract during the transfer window with first division Augsburg. 2. Augsburg has dug themselves a very deep hole and is last in the Bundeslige to the point of needing a miracle to avoid relegation. 3. Parkin has placed himself in a very good situation with his only competition at right back being Ronny Philp, a player who has not started a match this season. 4. Parkhurst managed to have a clause in his contract, allowing him a window to sign with another club in the event Augsburg is relegated.
Another Bundesliga club? how many clauses so he have in the contract? I believe the other clause has him being paid his current Bundesliga salary even if relegated
Philp was indeed injured. His first game was in the Cup against Bayern before Christmas. Kicker think he did pretty well; I haven't seen the game, and I don't think I've ever seen Philp play at all.
Ah well that makes more sense then. Still, with only one cup appearance under his belt and no Bundesliga appearances, there's probably not much way of knowing yet how much competition Philp will provide at RB for Parkhurst.
Augsburg hang on and win 3-2 after blowing a 3-0 lead. At least they got the 3 points, but boy do their midfield and defense need to improve. Every point matters. It's a fight to the death the rest of the season.
Here is the match report from Yahoo Eurosport: http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/footb...13/fortuna-dusseldorf-fc-augsburg-520344.html Props to Parkie for making the bench in his first action. His competition, Ronny Philip was the fans (yahoo users) highest rated defender.
Bump (from page 9! ) Who can outline Parkhurst's current prospects for playing time? Thanks in advance ...
Rony Philip got hurt in the first half and Parkhurst replaces him in the 43rd minute to make his Bundesliga debut. Germerican Shawn Parker picked up a red card as well.
I thought he looked good. He really likes to get down that wing more than I think people who remember him from his CB days realize, and he received a lot of positive words from the commentators. I think his passing is definitely good enough for this level; his crossing, while better than I remember, might be a bit under par however. I think we'll have to wait and see there. Anyway, it's hard to judge him on his performance today because Mainz were playing a man down nearly the entire time he was on the field, so they didn't really try to attack much. Plus the amount of space Parkhurst was finding down the right might have been due to that as well.
It sounds like Philp may have torn a ligament in the same knee that he had problems with before and could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines. http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/...kel_philp-droht-die-naechste-leidenszeit.html Unfortunate for him, but it looks like that RB spot is Parkhurst's to lose now.
I hope he helps them stay up and gets plenty of minutes. Parkhurst is a solid player. He did okay at his last team and the only time I ever saw him in way over his head was when Norsejeilland (sp) was getting rolled in the CL. I think he may be at his level, in the lower/ midtable BL team. I like watching him for the same reasons I like watching Cameron they are working class footballers. They are adequate if not spectacular offensively and are pretty solid defensively. A very simple game played mostly on the right foot and when he does put a foot wrong it usually isn't an ohmygawd what the hades was he thinking moment. He may not win the game for you but he usually won't get you beat.
The best Augsburg can hope for at this juncture is a 16th place finish and a playoff with the 3rd place B2 club. They are hanging in there, but it's very tenuous. Some key matches coming up: 2/16 Leverkusen (A) 9:30 AM ET Bund 2/23 Hoffenheim (H) 9:30 AM ET Bund 3/2 Bremen (A) 9:30 AM ET Bund They need at least 4 points from these matches, preferably 5. The first one is a monstrous task, as Leverkusen are a strong club, though looking a little shaky lately. Hoffenheim at home is definitely winnable, and at least a point at Bremen is realistic. If they don't beat Hoffenheim at home, they are probably relegated.
