One friend of mine suggested GHOST BULLS

For either the team nickname or a new name for the Inferno, I'm not sure which.

I'm not sure what it means either - but I think it has something to do with Adult Swim.

I'm with Gator, definitely no 96ers. That's the least unique aspect of this team. How many others began in 1996? I would lean toward Bulls. If the spanish media and fans want to go with Toros, that's fine in their medium. Just like the Cowboys go by Vaqueros in Spanish.

No that what I write on 3rd Degree will matter, but...

So far I have been using Dallas, FC Dallas, and FCD when talk about the team. FCD has become the "slang" name to me which is really what a mascott name is used for, at least that's how I look at it in writing.

I have been trying to decide where I might go in terms of using a mascot in stories.... Origionally I was Toros all the way, but I was recently inspired by the "Blue Bulls" which is a rugby team in Australia.... and am leaning toward "Red Bulls" which can also be "Rojo Toros"

Frankly I like that... it reminds me a bit of "Red Devils." It avoides the "reds" which Chicago fans use I think. It's also is farily tough sounding. and you get the joke about the energy drink. (and couldn't you cut a sponsor deal?)

I don't think "the blue bulls" would be a good nickname- unless of course you would like to be known as "blue balls" by all opposing fans.
I definately think the red bulls of FC Dallas is the way to go.

When the renaming contest was going on, I was hoping that they would change the name to the Red Devils for the following reasons...
    1) Obvious soccer connection
    2) Easily translated into Spanglish (Diablos rojos)
and 3) some sort of connection to the Burn and Brimstone.

They missed out, but I think Red Bulls Toros Rojos accomplishes 2 out of those 3.

....Of course, according to our logo we'd be the Toros Blancos, but I don't think it has the same ring to it.

Maybe we should wait a while and whatever comes naturally at the end of the season go with that. I mean, do we even know if our jerseys will be red?

They will be red and white hoops.
(barring some bizzare circumstances changing things.)
But unless MLS allows white shorts, which I serisouly doubt, the shorts will be red.

So on the whole it will be "predominitly red."

Considering our likely uniform, why not The Hoops. Or Super Hoops as is common in Britain for hoops oriented clubs.

Wow I actually started a thread that someone responded to!

I really like the red bull idea, I can just see "grown ass man" coming to the sideline at halftime and grabbing a red bull (granted he might not be able to choke it down)

As for the dictating of the nickname, if everyone comes to the game with signs, posters, and chants of reb bulls I think that might sway the casual fan, and or media into going with that name.

I dig the Toros Rojos/Red Bulls nickname. But. I hope those "kits" will have the color red, otherwise I don't see the Red Bull nickname. FCD is right, that bull is white in the logo. (Yes, I know, 3rdDegree sez is almost a done deal. But until I see 11 men wearing those "kits.")

For now....there is something about that nickname....Toros Rojos
