I'm with you on that. It looks like Mario is trying to squeeze more money out of PA. for the team. I still believe that they won't leave Pittsburgh. Bring back the Spirit! :)

    In New Jersey.

The Kansas City Scouts became the Colorado Rockies who became the New Jersey Devils.

Many Detroit Red Wings fans hope Pittsburgh relocates to KC. It would open a spot in the Eastern Conference for the Wings. Rivalries with 4 of the original 6 would be renewed and, the best part, no more playoff games ending at 2 in the morning local time. It kinda sucks being a Western Conference team in the Eastern time zone.

It seems to me they would do better moving to Houston and playing in their new arena.

But, of course, I'd rather them stay in Pittsburgh where they are well-supported. The arena problems are not the fans' fault.

Anywhere out of the Eastern time zone would be good for the Wings.

I guess I forgot to finish my point in my earlier post. Just because the previous KC franchise failed doesn't guarantee a new one would. Seeing that the Colorado Avalanche have done well where the (NHL) Rockies failed, why can't the Kansas City Penguins (or whatever they'd be called) do the same where the Scouts failed?

You would think that it would be even better for Columbus or Nashville as they are two franchises that don't have the support that Detroit has. And having games in the eastern time zone would be better to grow those two franchises.

maybe kc would support da team. but hockey an soccer are da same. da storm vs da wave is more interesting then da storm vs da cougers. da black hawks vs columbus, kc, houston or any team where ders no cold weather in da south is just wrong. too many nhl teams, to expensive an da rivaly is fading like da ever somuch hated flyers. dont do dis ta soccer as well.

Columbus would be more of a 'true' fit to move to the East. If the NHL did realign to four divisions, it wouldn't be that off to have the East with 16 teams and the West with 14 teams (if the Pens relocation happens). Just move Detroit and Columbus east while moving Pit/KC west.

From reports on CNNSI.com and others, Nashville's having a tough go with corporate sponsorship and ticket sales aren't covering the loss.

Nashville would be out simply because they are in the Central time zone. Columbus is slightly further east then Detroit but the Wings are always the team I hear as the first on the list to switch conferences (maybe because I am here in metro Detroit). The same thing happened a few years back when it was suggested that Ottawa could move to Portland, OR or Houston. I think they would be picked first between the 2 by the league because of the "original 6" aspects. Games between Detroit and Toronto, Montreal, Boston or the Rangers would get much more attention than Columbus vs any of those teams. Also, the ownership in Detroit is considered very strong and would carry more weight if they pushed the issue. It was frustrating to see them not flex that muscle recently, however, when it came to the issue of the unbalanced schedule. The backlash in this market if they stayed in the west and let Columbus go east without a fight would be huge. No offense to any of the Central division teams, Nashville in particular as they have grown into a very good team, but seeing those teams over and over and over again gets old, especially when we don't see some of the Eastern teams at all.

ESPNNews just said that the Gov., Penguins management and NHL Commish Gary Bettman are having an emergency meeting tommorow. It may not be in the papers but in the Cleveland Plain Dealer they said the Gov. would ask the NHL to bar the team from moving if at all possible.

That and according to KDKA the Pens received a phone call from Houston but have yet to reply. They also have not had any contact with KC since the one meeting in January. The TV station reports that the Pens have no plans on talking to them again anytime soon.

Guess that all depends on the meetings in Philly tomorrow.

Houston has been mentioned quite a bit here in Pittsburgh. Not near as much as KC by the media.

As I was typing the above you can now scratch Houston off the list. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07066/767650-61.stm

This is the letter the Pens released on the 5th to the media: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07065/767027-61.stm

This is the reply from Mayor Ravenstahl: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07065/767234-61.stm

To me, it seems that the Pens are upset that Don Barden (leader of the group that got Pgh's casino license) is involved. The Pens had been very tightly associated with another casino group. If that group won the casino license, would have built a new arena "for free" as a gift to the city of Pittsburgh.

Well the main thing is, IF Kansas City does return to the MISL, Zoran Savic will probably not be involved since he's an assistant coach with Chivas USA in MLS.

Unfortunately he's still involved with soccer in this country in some form or another. That's too bad.

That rotten SOB Bettman wants to expand to 32 teams, that is why the split into east and west, with 2 divisions each. There are too many cities without a team that will be willing to pony up for franchises at this point. Hartford, Houston, K.C., Hamilton, Winnepeg, Las Vegas, Seattle......

    Today in the Cleveland PD:
"Penguins, Pittsburgh reach arena deal" no specifics were mentioned. According to the paper, this report came from unidentified sources of KDKA-TV. The annoucement is reportedly coming before tonight's game vs. Buffalo (ah the memories) at the Igloo.
