Next England Manager odds (from Sky Bet) 2-1 Graham Potter 3-1 Eddie Howe 5-1 Mauricio Pochettino 6-1 Steve Cooper 16-1 Brendan Rodgers 16-1 Lee Carsley 16-1 Thomas Tuchel 18-1 Steven Gerrard 20-1 Wayne Rooney 20-1 Frank Lampard
To be fair Lampard wants to go back to Chelsea as well and have a second go. But for him success with England would increase the chances of that I suspect.
Potter , Howe or Rodgers for me .. Potter apparently had Chelsea playing some decent footie last night and even scored a glorious goal .. If that’s the case then it didn’t take him long to get his ideas across to them
Potter is not going to be available if Southgate quits after Qatar as speculated. He most likely won’t be available after the euros either. The same could well apply for Howe.
Don’t want Tuchel or Potch ..too negative and boring - we have had more than enough of that garbage Maybe Rooney would be a interesting choice … he had Derby playing well and successfully plus he’s a free agent plus he’d immediately have the player’s respect
Steve Cooper has just signed a new contract at Nottingham Forrest which probably means he is out as a post Qatar possibility.
TalkSport are discussing this topic as we speak .. They were impressed how Potter had used three completely different systems/formations in his last three games with Chelsea
They should make Southgate accept Potter as his tactical adviser just for the World Cup !!! At least we’d have an outside chance
After that Euro’s draw I don’t think many managers will want it without the security of plenty of compensation as the risk of being sacked due to non qualification will be quite high.
You have to be trolling at this point. What kind of manager would be scared off the England job because they're so scared of failing to even qualify for a tournament? Which manager exactly do you think would be up for the England job but so lacking in self-belief they do not back themselves to finish above Ukraine and North Macedonia? This is a really absurd post even by the standards you usually set.
Ah yes, the very prevalent manager who both so lacks belief they they don't even back themselves to be able to be able to get one of the best teams in the world to finish above Ukraine and North Macedonia, but also so ambitious that they would take said job hoping to land a major club. Do you not see a bit of a contradiction there? Euro's used to be much tougher to qualify for, world cups still are tough to qualify for. You used to have to finish top just to guarantee a slot! The idea managers would be so terrified of having to finish top 2 in a 5 team group is really getting absurd.
Can you imagine the job interview if you are instantly trying to get compo set into the contract for an early sacking lol.
Well that is what a lot of club managers are known to demand to be added into their contracts when they hired. It’s been reported that the compensation for sacking Rodgers is one thing that is making his job at Leicester more secure than current results and form would ordinarily do.
The issue for Leicester is they have no money and one of the best paid managers in the league. If England wanted to end someones contract early they too need to pay them compensation. What does get negotiated is to what extent contracts are performance based. The idea that people would be put off the England job because they might be sacked if they fail to qualify is frankly bizarre. It's the same terms as any management job. And such a low barrier to meet.
And the FA have always been seen as reluctant to pay to end someone’s contract and have always hired unemployed managers if going external. It just feels that if he does go after Qatar it won’t be an easy recruitment ent process and could be quite messy and controversial as the FA only wanted Potter to replace him.
Let me ask, I studied in the UK. I know the rivalry and banter between the countries involved. Was of the impression the FA would rather hire a Frenchman than a Northern Ireland coach.
