You're the one pushing back on a good faith question that wasn't even directly posed to you? Maybe you should ask yourself why you're responding and pushing back on me emphasizing (somewhat lightly, honestly) on the impact of a red card on a player pool that is obviously not great. You've done it many times, so maybe you're projecting a little bit.
The more I think about it, a Tuchel at Chelsea style reclamation project may be in order. Convert the 4-3-3 to a more defensive and pragmatic 3-4-3. Try to shore up the defense with an extra CB and just go with 3 attackers. Be tough to break down and hit on the counter, wingbacks provide width and wingers can cut inside and interchange.
I don't think 3-4-3 is "more defensive" when CB is the weakness of your team and the midfield is (or should be) the strength of your team...
To me it’s more defensive in that we’re taking an attacking player off the pitch (like Weah) and replacing with a CB. Also defensive in the sense that we wouldn’t be aiming to win the possession battle against stronger sides. We could push Reyna up so we could still get 3 of our midfielders on the pitch. CB is concerning but I think Richards is better than what he showed in CA and will improve. Scally could potentially play as a 3rd CB. I think the CB’s will look better when they aren’t asked to do as much with the ball at their feet.
Yeah but our centerbacks are our weakest position besides goalkeeper. Assuming Ream is done which other two guys are we starting with Richards? Are Dest and Jedi in the 4 line?
I think 3-4-3 could be a good option when Dest is out, Scally could basically just be a third center back instead of right back. With Dest not sure if it's as a good. We don't have a lot depth a fullback though, the drop-off from Dest and Robinson to their backups is significant, might a good option to have in the tool box if either is unavailable.
The problem of sitting Tyler at times might go away with a new coach. A Johnny+Musah double pivot might be interesting to try (in a 3-4-3 or 4-2-3-1, or whatever). We put too much defensive and physical pressure on FBs and MFs under Gregg’s FB-centric attack.
if they are holding a camp with the hope that just maybe they find one guy who can take the last spot on the roster then its a waste of time. they need to spend time looking at different formations, strategies with the a team and if the new coach thinks there is a guy that can help the a team just call him in and drop a guy that doesn't play now. watching the 'b/c' team play together isn't going to show anything. oh and by the way you asked 'what else would the coaching staff be doing?'.....evaluating players in real matches. I know some people think nt coaches just sit around until two days before camp rosters come out but they don't.
If everyone is healthy how about 3 1 4 2? Scally, Richards, ARob CB. Dest, Timo wingbacks. Adams or Johnny 6, Wes and Gio midfield Gio more biased to the attack. Puli under Balo up top. I guess my biggest questions would be how the cbs hold up against a potent attack. Would need TA to shield the back line in that scenario. Some might also say that it keeps ARob out of the attack. I’m not necessarily sure that would not be a good thing in the long run.
Anyone have any vague idea of how many games the new coach could have with the A team before rosters need to be finalized? It can't be all that much.
About 25 if they're hired before September and also do the right thing and bring a full squad to the Gold Cup.
Whoever created the usage of grouped is also a failure. Sure seems to have been used just to get rid of Berhalter as I've never seen it used that way until this tournament. So if that was it's intent it worked so can we also get rid of it and go back to using as intended? Can we see it grouped with other bad business terms that took off out of the mouths of corporate execs.
Do you mean the World Cup final roster? the Wikipedia page on the international match calendar between now and the World Cup: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_International_Match_Calendar#Upcoming_match_windows There are the friendlies in September and October. Nations League in November and then again in March. Hopefully an expanded Gold Cup next summer, maybe with a couple of pre-tournament friendlies. Then the windows Sept. Oct and Nov. next year. Followed by another March Window. Around 20-24?
Says a lot that the likeness for the USA fanbase looks like a post atomic blast scavenger mutant. I highly doubt that’s what our friend TimB4Last looks like, btw!

People seem to think he’d take the USMNT job if offered. He’s not my first choice but I’d be fine if we hired him.
His reaction to questions about USMNT were basically the same Dolo had that sent twitter into a meltdown Viera has also been pretty vocal in being unhappy with the strategy at Strasbourg. I'd be fine ish with him.
Pass. Expensive Berhalter at best; Thierry Henry level problem at worst. The fact that he wanted an easy out to any top level club the last time we talked tell me he won't stick around if anything better comes calling. I get the EPL is the EPL, but how do you go three games in a row without a shot on goal?
What happened with him at Strasbourg? It seems like a weird time to part ways with a coach just when preseason is kicking into gear.
I think he’s roughly the same as Berhalter (and I’d prefer Cherundolo as a result) but I also don’t think a coach is going to be able to massively change the trajectory of the team. Like I said not my choice but I’d be fine with it. It definitely seems like he’s a candidate though 🚨🇺🇸 Patrick Vieira, one of the names under consideration for USMNT head coach job.Nothing advanced or close at this stage but Vieira’s one of the options being discussed, not the only one.Patrick, now free after mutually terminating contract at Strasbourg. pic.twitter.com/tCVRsIhL3x— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) July 18, 2024
Difference in approach. Chelsea basically wanted him to play a bunch if young players they’ve bought up and I think he wanted a team that was built with some more experience.
