Gold Coast United are hoping two of their key players overcome viruses ahead of tomorrow night’s vital clash with league leaders Melbourne Victory.

The A-League’s top scorer Shane Smeltz and midfield playmaker Charlie Miller are both suffering from a virus they picked upon the weekend’s trip to play the Central Coast Mariners.

New Zealand international Smeltz has been isolated from the rest of the playing group and did not train yesterday whilst Miller completed just half of the session. Youngster Tahj Minniecon, who shared a room with Miller on the trip, has symptoms of the virus but is believed to be not as bad as the other two.

"Tahj and Charlie trained for the first part of this morning but it's quite hot. They've lost a little bit of weight due to their unfortunate virus, but both of them are fit and will train fully tomorrow and be up for selection on Friday,” assistant coach Paul Okon said.
