BREAKING: MLS announces the Allocation Order is no longer in effect.Due to St. Louis City losing out on the asset that was the top spot in the allocation order, they will retain first refusal over ONE player of their choosing who was on the Allocation Ranking List.— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) January 20, 2023 https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/major-league-soccer-provides-update-on-allocation-ranking-list
So, I will freely admit that the decade plus of insane frustration has almost completely eaten my knowledge of the arcane looney bin MLS rules. How exactly does this change ******** us over?
Where we are right now: Available assets include 1DP, 2 U22 and 3 International slots. Per Fire website-27 roster players, so 3 roster spots open. Adequate amount of GAM and $ from sales to fill 1 DP, 2 U22 and (say) 2 TAM slots. Perception is that most starters and depth players seem to be in place. Clearly, #1 need is definitely a DP Striker. Another area with need is LB. A U22 or TAM player to compete at LB would seem to make a lot of sense. We have a need and the assets to solve the problem. We should do it now. Do you agree?
I'm still hopeful that Kacper can get back to his 2021 form. Apparently he had a back injury last year and if he's fully healed he could be that player.
Hoping by 2026, after we get the home world cup boost in interest, that we can take the training wheels off MLS. They have created parity through these bizarre rules but it's time to let the ambitious clubs take the league to next level ad start getting prime players that would've only considered a top 5 Euro league. I think we would be okay as Joe indicated his desire to be more ambitious with the Fire than the current league rules allow
I disagree. I do not want to ever see pro/rel here in MLS or the USA. Make a bit higher caps like they do every contract and dp's etc...but nope..I do not want to Ever see like in the Bunge provided video such disparities. Bunch of crap.
Expectations should be the front 4 (Shaqiri, Torres, Mueller & Przybylko) double their non-penalty goal production! Shaqiri had 3, needs to be 6+ Torres had ZERO, needs to be 3+ Mueller had 4, needs to be 6+ Przybylko had 5, needs to be 10+ Total from this front 4 was 12 and needs to be 25...turning last years 39 total into 52...which would have only been tied for 10th in total goals scored last season. Add a DP striker for 10 more and we get to 62...still only good for 6th most last season...but enough to be a solid playoff team.
Call me crazy, but if it’s Kacper as our planned starting forward on opening day, I’d rather plug Shaqiri in the striker position and let Gutierrez take on the playmaker role with a another young midfielder starting.
Of course, we all agree that goal production much increase substantially. Frankly, those four collectively doubling their goal production should be the absolute minimum at this point. A DP striker needs to contribute more than 10 goals. However, that is a ridiculous comment about "non-penalty goal production." All goals count the same. Shaqiri did NOT have 3 goals. He scored 7 goals, 1 behind Duran for the team lead. https://www.chicagofirefc.com/players/xherdan-shaqiri/stats/ If the Fire win 1-0 and that goal is a penalty, the Fire did NOT win, correct? Conversely, if the Fire lose 1-0, and the goal scored against them was a penalty, the game was actually a draw.
Shaqiri needs to double his goal production from 7 to 6. In other news, stolen from Twitter: More fun with numbers. In addition to the $2.1 in GAM from the Duran and Gaga deals, #cf97 have also amassed quite a bit of salary cap space in the last few weeks. -Ivanov alleviated $300k. -Duran alleviated $100k. -Sekulic alleviated $600k. -Bornstein alleviated $300k. -Andre alleviated $90k. -2023 sees the addition of $2.72m in TAM for each club. -None of their arrivals have required a xfer fee (Souquet, Gal, Dean, Haile-Selassie) and should not hit much above the senior minimum. #cf97 have enough flexibility for 3 QUALITY additions + a DP.
I'm basically down with this but for one thing: Doesn't dreamed for stud DP put one of these guys (lookin' at you Przybylko) on the bench, thus dinging that players goal total?
This to me..and I mean this spring preseason is the final test for me of Heitz. He Must deliver the goods...and then Ezra must do it right tactically or..bah....I just do not see a better confluence of events then now (other then I am still not sold that getting rid of Sekulic on a lower salary was good). I am thus...not too hopeful but am very hopeful I will be wrong. Go Fire!
C'mon, man. This begs to be filed under penetrating observations. You don't seriously consider PK goals to be weighed (from a production standpoint) as heavily as non-PK goals, do you? (at least PK goals that aren't the result of the goal scorer getting fouled in the box). I'm hardly in lockstep with OOC, but on this point, he's not wrong.
Yes, of course I do, for the very reason I stated. All goals count the same and 1-0 win, where the only goal was from a penalty, is still a win. Of course, I prefer our goals to come from the run of play(I think that is what you mean by a production standpoint), but in terms of goals scored, they are precisely the same.
We can definitely disagree on this. You DON'T prefer our goals to come from the run of play?!? How odd [emoji848][emoji848][emoji6]
Clearly, the Fire did not want to "pad their stats" so they stayed out of the box. [emoji6] That is Ezra's strategy.
Nah, Durán went forward plenty in Ezra’s system. Kacpar often played further back than the midfielders. We get the right kind of forward, we’ll score plenty.
