FWIW - Levi is at least still in camp as per Union twitter on the game... either confusing Levi for Mwanga on his goal, or being told to say it was Mwanga cause of the iron curtain press that Nowak has on all that is twitter. The roster right now is all players that currently have a "contract". Levi doesn't as of yet, only draft i think that didn't have a contract prior to the draft. Also, did we waive the waiver draft? ... edited cause fire signed an international..not waiver draft.. and i dont look at details.
OK, I feel a little better after seeing that Levi is at least still with the team based on the Union's twitter feed.
Damn, so the pattern really is full. I guess everyone is all drafted out ... what was this, the 5th or 6th one this offseason?
And other leagues laugh at us because we have a draft at all, little do they know that we have multiple drafts each year.
I'm curious as to the contract status of some of these players. There didnt seem to be any way to downgrade the contract status of any of these players to the off-budget roster - - since they've cleared waivers, would it be possible to sign them to the off-budget roster?
I don't get this draft at all. If they are cutting players why would they sign other teams cut players. Shouldnt they just make a trade offer to the other team. and if they get cut they should be a "free agent" and not and not use this draft. i just dont get it
Its all about control, MLS wants to control the whole machine of player contracts and acquisition. Remember all these drafts seem silly, but its still progress from where player rights were just a year ago.
I still think we should make a move for Matthew Mbuta, a Cameroonian international who scored in his first cap, but is playing for a Baltimore team that'll be inactive this year. Even if for depth, he looks like a solid option.
After the Waiver Draft, several of these players are now already trialing in MLS camps - presumably for that very reason (i.e. waived from Senior Roster - possibly trialing for an Off-Budget roster spot for the same or lower $ as they earned in 2010). The players in camps include a couple of ex-Red Bulls (Sinisa Ubiparipovic is in Kansas City's camp - Conor Chinn is in RSL's camp) - Union do not seem likely to pick through the leftovers although Chivas defender Carlos Borja was the only one who I thought might be a possibility.

maybe the thought is that if he had really impressed they would have signed him already, especially given his name recognition in T&T vs Thorne Holder
Agree - the author probably does not realize that Holder is more of a known quantity to the Union coaching staff based on his Maryland Terp days with Vartughian than the more accomplished Daniel - who likely landed on the Philly radar with some of his recent TnT national team play as well as his play with last season with Puerto Rico.
http://www.philadelphiaunion.com/news/2011/03/farfan-adjusting-new-role-along-backline Union press release related to Michel Farfan confirms a few items for the first time by the team which have been discussd don B.S. for a while: * Gabriel Farfan is named as a trialist (been shown in photos on the website but IIRC he was never mentioned by name) - likely would not list his name if they did not intend to sign him and this article is a way of leaking the info - will have to see if Keon Daniel get a similar leak in a press release tomorrow * Michael Farfan has been mainly use as a RB in camp * Ryan Richter has been mainly used as a defender in camp (mentioned as a RB but also probably played some CB which is what he played at La Salle when he was not playing F, IIRC) Current Reserve Team Backline (LB - LCB - RCB - RB): G. Farfan - Gonzalez - Richter - M. Farfan
