"She just has to go straight to the goal," Sundhage said. "That's all we need her to do."

Now I understand what Pia means when she talks about her sophisticated approach to the game.

I thought this was an interesting article:

    http://msn.foxsports.com/foxsoccer/...-women-soccer-men-want-in-on-bandwagon-071511

While Nike is trying to make the jerseys more appealing to some types of audiences (I know they don't admit to it but come on how else do you explain those jerseys) they are instead hurting their profit and the women's game but alienating some of their audience which is an audience that in my opinon is what the part of the core of the USWNT soccer audience is (soccer dads supporting their daughters are part of the audience of soccer moms and inspired soccer playing girls). Just interesting that's all.

    Are all announcers mathematically challenged?

We recall the QF timekeeping gaffe. And now, ...

A few minutes ago Brandi Chastain was on the ABC news show "This Week With Christiane Amanpour" and said that soccer was played by "42 player", then she stuttered and started to say "22", but changed it to "11 on each side".

Maybe just a blonde thing. ;)

Should have been Abby Wambach on the cover or the whole USWNT but I'm not complaining any cover issue is a good thing

Here is NY senator acknowledging the USWNT and Abby on their achievements during the tournament. http://http://youtu.be/IbZCH58l8YM

Nice they made the cover, but they couldn't find an action shot?

As far as news, local sportstalk on 760 was talking WNT. Not all the talk was flattering, the host said,"We need to respect them enough as pro athletes to be able to say the choked, just as we would a Men's team". Weird!

But to hear mainstream Sportstalk discuss Women's soccer was pretty damn amazing.

Here are three different articles from ESPN.com following up on WWC

Don't always agree with Carlisle but this was an insightful article about how WWC will affect the future of WPS, which has seen attendance decrease by 24 percent from 2010.
    http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/ne...828/women-world-cup-wwc-boost-women-soccer-us

This one talks about how the US team must continue improve to keep pace with the rest of the world.
    http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/news/_/id/6782891/women-world-cup-us-women-improve-left-behind

And here is a dopey article about how journalists should not be afraid to brand the team chokers just because they are women. Shame that this is the topic the mainstream media chose to debate.

You are correct that Wambach should have been on the cover.

But, did you notice something else about the cover? Look what the name of the event is.

    It says "World Cup."

This time, there has been no need to qualify the event with the word "Women's" in front.

That is a sign of arrival.

    Kool-aide, thanks.

I'm not sure what prompted me to read the gnarliest column right after lunch. Enough said.

Wahl's column has an interesting end.

"These women are fearless -- and it's one of the reasons why the U.S. is on the verge of winning the World Cup."

I think it is worth adding that sports fans in general recognize and admire their fearlessness - and that's one of the reasons this team is deservedly popular and, yes, beloved.
