I'm way too pissed at Ghrame Pole right now to give my thoughts..... amazing match though.

Henchoz was very much to blame for the Alan header...if you have the chance take a look at that goal and his half arsed effort to clear the shot off the line.

why do you blame Henchoz 1 mistake over owens and Heskeys several.

those 2 players lost us the game.

I don't know why you're angry at Graham Poll...or am I just forgetting something??

What a great match, not a slow moment in it.

Gerrard and Hamann were both amazing. With Stevie G. slowly regaining the form that he had in the treble season, it will only be a short while before he starts scoring again. Hamann didn't make a bad move the whole match. I dare say he's become more of a rock than Hyypia has

Owen can't hit the broadside of a barn right now, and I can't believe he was allowed to take the penalty. Hopefully, this will start to take him out of his slump a little. It was taken well enough to go in, but only because the keeper guessed incorrectly. Still, he looked better today than he has so far this season, and it should just be a matter of time before he's banging in goals for fun.

I'm really excited by our midfield play this season. We controlled the majority of the match and it was almost all Murphy, Gerrard, and Hamann. Great stuff.

I thought Henchoz played great. Owen will be having nightmares tonight without a doubt. He did so well to make opportunities and the only thing lacking was the ball being in the back of the net. Still, in hindsight, just one of those going in would have won it.

Well, that makes two of us. That penalty was lame.

Fabulous game. Liverpool has some serious finishing issues.

Liverpool's midfield with a healthy Gerrard can be quite fearsome.

every one of sky sports pundits said it was a penalty so do I, he used Hyypia as a ladder.

Newcastle bring out the style in us when we should have sat back after going 2-0 up, great game anyway.

who entertains better then liverpool and newcastle

    Three absolutely correct statements.

I'm starting to look more forward to these fixtures than the derby or the ManU matches.

Why is it that the best matches this year have been draws !?!?!? (Chelsea -Manure, Arse -W. Ham and now the Reds and the Toon)...

...just trying to be like an American...I'm really happy that I got to see all three!

looks like its 4 points now that has been lost for ya guys (but with the way they played...definate title contenders...how the hell is Spurs up near the top??? gotta see a game of theirs.)

Don’t blame Henchoz for that game, after Hamann he was one of Liverpool’s best, he’s always there to clean up behind Sammi or Xavier and he did his share in attack. Some bugger has to put the ball in the net..!!
It was a great exciting game for the first hour at least and the lack of finish let Newcastle in, with vengeance.

  11. Another draw snatched from the jaws of victory.

All credit to Newcastle—a really great match for both sides, although we clearly were the better team for 75 minutes. The triple substitution seemed to ignite them, and we couldn’t hold on.

In the back, I think Traore had yet another stellar match—great poise, skill, and terrific service up to our strikers. Hyppia was a rock; Henchoz was fine—just a little off his usual form today. As for Xavier: get well Markus and Carra.

Gerrard was even better today than against Rovers—very hardworking and some great crosses into the box. Murphy was a little bit off his usual form, but again great work rate and ball-winning. Didi Hamannofthematch justly earned honors for the second straight match—outstanding play, and a goal to top it off!

Damned if I know what Smicer did. I would have preferred Riise. Or if Smicer was supposed to be up top with Owen (with Heskey on the left), then Diouf, not Smicer, should have started. I just don’t get this one at all.

Owen and Heskey have exhausted all possible ways of missing the goal, so I expect them to each have hat tricks against Birmingham City. Each missed two very makeable goals.

So two weeks running we blow leads and settle for one point. At Rovers, I could shrug it off—a point away I can live with, I guess (we took only one point away to them last year, IIRC). But at Anfield, with a 2-0 lead to a team we typically beat at home (and from whom we took full points last year), this is a worse result—though we played a much better game tonight than last week.

Yes, it’s very early in the season—but notice that that while we’ve blown leads twice already this year, Arsenal have come back twice from deficits to draw their opponents (Chelsea and West Ham—both away). Plenty of football left to play, but little stuff like this adds up.

    Not last season's Reds

For some reason, despite us losing a 2 nil lead in the last 10 minutes, I feel ok this morning.

Sure I was pretty mad last night but this morning I was hit by a sense of calm.

Why? Because we played so well. I mean think about it for a second, this was a vintage attacking performance. Creating chances left and right.

The downsides are obvious, poor finishing and slack defending in the last 10 when you should shut up shop and grab the 3 points.

However I thought our overall performance was wonderful. Attacking play, swift passing, not much long ball stuff.

Hamann and Gerrard were terrific, world class both of them.

And yet it crashed to a screeching halt at the end. For me no worries. We will beat anybody playing like that in the future.

Michael will start scoring and all will be well.

This is not last year's Liverpool!

Your eternal optomist signing out :D

I pretty much felt the same way. It was a great match, and it would've been fun for a neutral to watch.

And unlike last year, at least it's better (or at least it doesn't feel as bad) to drop two points to a decent side than to drop two or three to a relegation candidate as we seemed to do all the time last season. On the other hand... up 2-0 in the 80th minute...[grit teeth. growl] oh well...[/grit teeth. growl]

While it was great from Owen to score the penalty and it will hopefully get him going. I wonder if sitting him down for a game won't do him some good. If he goes through a streak like Heskey did last year of not putting away chances game after game we are dead. Give Baros a run.

    Owen

While it would be tempting to pull the trigger and make Owen sub, I would say leave him in.

Last night he was really snatching it at his chances and often he should have passed instead of shooting. But I still say leave him in.

Here's why. Houllier won't have missed what he all saw. That chance in the first half he should have done a 1-2 with gerrard who was open in the box. GH will sit Owen down and say "Pass it" and you watch he will in the next match.

Secondly, some of the other players spurned chances trying to set Michael up. Gerrard and Heskey were both guilty of that. GH will sort that out too.

The penalty, although not a goal in open play, will settle him down, we have a short break of matches for international games and he will come back scoring.

And the most important reason, he is on my fantasy team :D

    Re: Owen

Well that being the case, there is absolutely no reason to put him on the bench.

I agree with everything you are saying, however, sometimes it does a world of good to give a player a break for a game. I wouldn't want to see him rested for more than a game.
