Son in the first half and Harry Kane with a brace in the second period, Spurs up to 7th. Only our 4th away win in the last 24 in the PL.
And now to have a laugh. Current fight for 4th: Leicester 59 Man U 59 Wolves 56 Spurs 55 Leicester and Man U with a match in hand. Leicester play Sheff U, Spurs, and ManU. Man U play Palace, West Ham, Leicester. Wolves play Palace and Chelsea. Spurs play Leicester and Palace First, it is possible that Palace foul things up. Wouldn't that be a bit of a chuckle if Palace won their last 3 matches? Second, Spurs can win both matches and still finish 6th. Third, and this is funny: Spurs could beat Leicester, and then it could come down to Man U drawing with Leicester on the final day for Spurs to...wait for it...get 4th. I was having a laugh at just that possibility.
You are forgetting Sheffield Utd, who can still finish on 63 points if they win all 3 of their fixtures (Leicester (A), Everton (H) and Southampton (A)). So, provided Leicester lose to Sheffield United and us, we ONLY need Manchester Utd to lose twice and then draw against the Foxes, with Sheffield Utd AND Wolves dropping at least 2 points each, while we win at Palace on the final day. In the ultimate Mother of All Spursy Endings, I can see all that happening and then with us winning 1-0 at Palace, Eric Dier comes on as a late defensive substitute and gives away a VAR assisted penalty in the 99th minute to cost us 4th place. Jose then goes ballistic and tries to strangle the fourth official, gets suspended for life by the FA, and Daniel Levy rehires Pochettino on the condition that he pay back all his gardening leave.
As Spurs fans, we should always be looking behind - it is precisely when we look forward that we get in trouble - weren't we all looking forward to this season?
Let's see - they let Llorente go without replacing him, sold Trippier without replacing him, Son was suspended for the first two games, the Eriksen fiasco was ongoing, we played shit soccer for the last half of the previous season. No, I wasn't super optimistic going into this season.
I dont see the Spurs getting 4th. That being said, i think the Spurs can realistically get 6th. Spurs at worst tie v Leciester, beat Crystal Palace. Wolves beat Palace, lose to Chelsea. Both even on Pts. Both even on goals. h2h is tied. GF/GA h2h is tied. Spurs take 6th due to more away goals in h2h match. IDK if thats how it works, lol.. but.. would be interesting. I think Spurs can win both of their next 2 matches if i am being honest. the fact Chelsea will likely still be fighting for CL spot means they will be going after the Wolves in the final match.
I forgot Wolves are still in Europa. If they win it they're in CL... The more realistic Spursy end to the season is us finishing 7th and being denied EL by Arsenal winning the FA cup.
The way of Spurs is that they need to beat Palace on the final day to guarantee themselves Europa. But they draw after being up 2 or 3 goals, finish 7th, and are booted out by Arsenal winning the FA Cup after they finished 8th in league because they lost their match on the last day of the season.
Leicester missing quite a few pieces heading into the match v Spurs. I hate to say it ... because it comes off as optimism towards the Spurs which is never a good thing.. but.. i think 6th spot is there for the taking. Imagine Wolves drop points to Palace? Epic.
After today's results, the best we can do is 6th. I would rather we lose to Leicester if it means them getting into CL ahead of Chelsea or Man U. I love the Europa League (we won the old Uefa Cup twice in the days that we actually went full out for trophies), but it is just going to give Jose another excuse if he underachieves.
