Updated tweet: NWSL @NWSL Note: It's just the list of players that will be announced today, not the location where they will play. That info will be announced soon.
Yeah... I'm wondering if it's a Mexican slot missing with them not willing to pony up as much cash, or if it's an American slot (e.g. Pinoe?). I personally don't think they needed to "update" themselves, but I guess a lot of people took "the list" as including the locations, which was not stated or implied by the first tweet... *shrugs*
Considering it came out on Twitter, people are going to have to read a lot into what they said. Always better to be very clear.
That, and people were already reading into it and assuming it meant the team allocations were being announced.
Nikki Izzo-Brown, WVU coach, tweeted "Excited to hear where WVU's Bry McCarthy will be allocated with our New @NWSL Professional Womens Soccer League today!"
It's something. They need to keep it in the news. Keep it on people's minds. Women's football fans r still thinking about the POTY and its the perfect time to get them thinking NWSL as well.
Jeff K reporting that it is in fact the US delegation "down one", from 24 to 23. So I'm betting that slot would've been Pinoe's. Also, Brian B (of FCKC) reporting that the "next three days are going to be fun" and said the fans should get ready. So I'm expecting allocation results and then some in terms of announcement by Saturday.

I'm not really familiar with their roster, but, not surprisingly, about half the Mexican allocation is US-based players.
A bit more on the actual allocation process: The allocation process will be conducted with assistance from a panel of experts familiar with the player pool, including individuals from the collegiate level, recent professional and semi-professional clubs, and the youth and senior national team level in North America. Along with the panel’s collective input on the technical ability of the players, in preparation for the allocation, players have selected their preferred destinations and the clubs have provided their preference with regard to specific players and qualities of players desired. Based on the input from the panel of experts and teams, players will be assigned numerical values on quality and desirability. “The allocation will provide each club with a foundation of talent to build a competitive roster,” said NWSL Executive Director Cheryl Bailey. “Ultimately, the goal is to pair the teams and players in such a way that we achieve a fair distribution of talent across all eight teams. This is another important step as we continue to build towards the inaugural season of the National Women’s Soccer League. We are looking forward to sharing this news with our fans in the coming days.” Perhaps this more in-depth look is what took the extra time in the process.
Ah... so it's not just a "matching preferences" thing, they are adding other factors in. I don't think I agree with that, but it certainly explains things and does cover some problems.
Yep. Which is perfect. There are eight franchises. And seven more goalkeepers will be signed on as free agents + Franch in the draft.
Mexicans usually use both parents names; so Chelsea would be Chelsea Clinton Rodham. For formal occasions, including group introductions one uses all the names one can scrape up-- she'd be Chelsea Victoria Clinton Rodham. Not sure whether those on the list are given middle names or confirmation names though.
And remember the first Last name is the paternal last name, which is the one that is used in the USA So F Maribel Dominguez Castelan Is actually Maribel Dominguez in the USA, the Castelan is the mothers’ last name, which gets dropped.
A Twitter chat on NWSL from last night was hosted by Yael Averbush and Ella Masar - some information that is new to me - see summary here: http://www.nwslnews.com/new-nwsl-details-revealed-during-this-weeks-womens-soccer-chat-wsoccerchat/
Looking at the allocation lists from each of the three teams forwards will definitely be a premium. There are three top strikers in Abby, Alex, and Christine. Sydney is also quite valuable. Beyond that how will each of the 8 teams have a top striker up top? Move Cheney back to forward? O'Hara even? Arod? And that's only attempting to be one striker deep per team. Mexico is loaded with defenders and mids. Same with Canada beyond Sinclair sans Tancredi (although Filigno will be great next year). Does this year's college draft really have any player that can step in immediately and be a productive starting forward a team can lean on for goals? Some midfielders and defenders perhaps but anyone that can be relied on to put the ball in the back of the net? The NSWL minders really need to be wise when trying to create parity across the league during allocation today.
New league bylaw: all teams must play a 4-5-1. (Actually, that might be self-enforcing given the player pool.)
