The yet to be named team in the Lincoln Yards development seems to be targeting a summer 2020 start. They have a contest to name the team. http://nameonchicago.com/ Maybe doesn't belong in this forum, but it will be interesting to see what Hauptman and co do over the next two years.
I voted for "Chicago Fire II" ...as I want whoever are actually the powers that be behind this pipe dream to buy the Fire and move them to the new stadium once it is built (and equitably compensate the Village of Bridgeview) Yeah, it was probably a wasted vote, since we already have a USL-level team...in Bridgeview.
Honestly surprised to see the stadium being touted as a done deal to the point of a 'name the team that'll being playing here' contest, but, whooo-boy, if this does happen, it'll be embarrassing if/whenever the USL team draws comparably to the MLS squad. I'm here for it.
Oh, and as far as the name is concerned, I'm totally going with Rhythm, as I feel like we really missed the boat the first time around
Sting or As xtomx said, Chicago Fire II. Amazon buys the team and moves them to the new stadium. Either one I'll be there watching the NEW team or the new FIRE. #FvckYouAndi
Assuming they can get the approval and funding to get this stadium built, I’d honestly be surprised if they don’t call this team Chicago Football Club/CFC. They will most likely take a page out of NYCFC’s and LAFC’s playbook and market themselves as the “authentic” or “real” Chicago team. Ironically the only advantage the Fire has is MLS’ agreement with Bridgeview forcing any MLS team based in Chicago to play there. If this new team/ownership group is playing the long game they will try to build a “grassroots” following as NYCFC and LAFC has done in their cities and once either the Bridgeview agreement expires in 2035 or they pay off Bridgeview to enter the MLS. Long story short, if this happens I have a feeling it will hurt the Fire in the long run.
You may be right, but that would be pathetic. Waiting until 2035 would be playing a reaaaaaaaaaaaaaally long game. They pay off Bridgeview. There would be too much money invested at this point. If there is not a merger between the entities, it will destroy the Fire in the short run, but (possibly) save the Fire in the long run, as it would force a merger at some point. Having a lower level team play in a state-of-the-art stadium in a desirable location in Chicago, as opposed to the Fire playing in Bridgeview, coupled with all of the animosity that has built up against ownership/management over the last decade and lack of ambition (save for last year)? I predict the lower league team wins out.
It was a shame the fire couldn't build a stadium in chicago. If the usl does build a decent stadium in chicago I would go to those games but to think the majority of fans would support a usl team over an mls one is just something that is not going to happen.
The Chicago Clout.----- 2. informal influence or power, especially in politics or business. synonyms: influence, power, weight, sway, leverage, control, Team colors. Black on one side, green on the other, like money. Maybe with that weird 10$ bill orange/yellow on the away kit. Logo: Diamond pinkie ring. Team motto: "Whose ye'r clout?" Supporters group: The Ward Healers ------------------- The Chicago Defenders, after an old newspaper
I think the operative words here are "fans" and "support." I agree that the majority of Chicago Fire fans will support the Fire, despite the years of degradation and lack of ambition. However, the "college crowd" would probably just go to Lincoln Park as opposed to Bridgeview. A family going for a "day out" might likely opt for the Chicago team. Just like in Kane County, families opt for the Cougars (or Joliet or Gary or Schaumburg) as opposed to making the hike to Comisky Park to watch "real" baseball. It is the same idea, only the minor league team happens to be in the Big City and the "major league (soccer)" team is in the suburbs. I would assume the tickets will be as cheap or cheaper than the Fire. I imagine the beer will be about the same price, but better. Time and transportation for most of the 2,800,000 in the City and the 500,000 in the Northern suburbs will be a hell of a lot better.
As this is developing rapidly, time for me to update. This is no longer a Pipe Dream (@milicz, looks like you correct, as always). http://www.chicagotribune.com/busin...etts-soccer-team-ryan-ori-20180508-story.html Sterling Bay and the Ricketts* combining spells doom for the Fire. Toss in Amazon (https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/am...er-hopes-its-the-ticket-to-hq2.2077039/page-4), and Good bye, Chicago Fire?!? Hello, Fire United Club -the Kickers, Las Vegas! *I despise Ricketts with the hatred of a thousand Hauptmans (support for Trump, strong-arming the City, etc.), but he did bring (god, this hurts to say) a winning team to those assholes on the North Side.
Yikes. I started a new thread as I: a) forgot about this one; and b) thought this news was deserving of its own thread as this thing did just get very real. I'm sure the Mods will fix this once they are done with their . . .
