Let's hope it gives Lyon the special powers needed to be a big club.

60,000 can not be the EXACT capacity. Velodrome is 60,032. I want to know the EXACT number for this stadium.

Actually though there has never been a match at the Velodrome that had 60,000 people. I read that the highest match attendance ever was 58,897 for a match vs Newcastle. If you want to host a Champions League final you need a 60,000 seat stadium but with fire laws and such if the capacity was exactly 60,000 then you could only hold 58,000 + for the match. I think they need 61,000-63,000 seats to ensure they get the 60,000 crowd for the final match. UEFA might not give Lyon the final if theres not at least 62,000 seats.

yes and no. if it's true that in most existing stadiums you can't fill every seat and still respect all the safety requirements, separate opposing fans etc., that's because they were built to other norms in other days. a stadium built today will be designed in a way that every seat can be used in CL config... otherwise they wouldn't put a seat there!

anyway, i came back to this thread because i just saw some sumptuous new pictures from HOK (the architects designing the stadium, who also did emirates); instead of hotlinking i direct you to a thread on an architectural forum which treats OLLand in depth:
