It appears that Sporting KC will be having a new voice in charge of their TV broadcasts this year. "From the 15th March I'll be working for Sporting Kansas City in MLS as television commentator and presenter. Very excited!" http://twitter.com/CalWilliams2011/status/39474272686714880 His name is Callum Williams from England.
Well according to his Twitter he just got his visa today, so that could be why we haven't heard anything yet, the team has made a habit of not announcing signings until the visa was cleared, maybe they're treating this the same way. I'm not sure for what position, but he was a commentator and reporter for the BBC.
I thought i read somewhere recently that Dave would be returning as well, so no Sasha now I would assume?
Would be hard to believe that he would be coming over all this way for a sideline reporter job. You would have to think he would be taking one of their spots, unless they decided to go to a one man booth, ala Seattle and Arlo White. Probably not since he is young in his career.
Lets just hope its this guy [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzUD41Re8u0"]YouTube - callum williams is drunk[/ame]
Although my understanding of British TV slang comes entirely from watching BBC America, would it be safe to say that the tweet could reasonably have meant hosting the weekly show (presenting) and taking Sasha's spot in the broadcast booth (commentary)?
I've heard from a fairly reliable source that Callum Williams will in fact be the lead commentator/presenter for SKC broadcasts. Announcement should be soon (perhaps before/on media day March 14). He's 21 and it's a fairly interesting tale (which I hope to get on the record soon) about how this all came to be. Not sure about Sasha (and if this will be an Arlo White-type thing where he calls games by himself), but Dave will not be back on the broadcasts.
Nothing against Dave, but I am glad to hear there will be a new voice on broadcasts. Dave's voice is just not very suitable for PBP. I wouldn't mind seeing him as sideline reporter.
Well Dave is the PR guy, so maybe he'll be content just to get back to doing his own job at last. I never had a problem with Dave's PBP - wasn't perfect but then it was his first year on the job. Not bad at all for a guy essentially thrown into what was a new gig on Live TV. Generally I only notice the PBP guys if they are appalling, not since MetroSports ... Maybe I'm biased, I like the guy on a personal level but I always thought he took a lot of undue shit here, most of it during the awful spell of play last year when we could not buy a win for months. We started the end of season push and that all died ...
i've never heard the new guy, but i'm very pleased with this news. dave just wasn't blessed with a good pbp voice or delivery. it's not his fault or anything he did wrong, it's just the way it is. hopefully this will include radio/tv commercials as well.
I just want to hear the guy's voice. Wanna know who I'm going to be hearing from now on. Then again, I'm going to be getting very used to his voice anyways.
