Re: New Numbers for the roster

Why would anyone just change their number? Namoff is going to wear #26 next year. Guys get superstitious about their jersey #s - I am willing to bet you couldn't pay Jaime enough money to chagne from #99 now.

seriously, why would this even be discussed.

we just won MLS Cup , so if superstition is at play, we definately shouldnt change player numbers

    You're just guessing, right?

I don't see a need for some players to change numbers.

And if Nellie is indeed leaving, then I suggest that we honor him by not giving out the #7 for a year, which is now DC United custom. It's a honor bestowed to Pop, Goose, Etch, ABMOD, and Harkes.

And I would think that Jamie will stick to being the Wayne Gretzky of MLS.

As far as I'm concerned, Jaime Moreno is the Jaime Moreno of MLS.

I added a question mark to the title so people don't think - as I for just a moment did - that the numbers actually had been changed.

There's absolutely no reason to change the numbers, or for the numbers to run 1-28.

seems like off season mental masturbation to me...the players will keep their numbers...in the past the only reason a player changed was if they left and came back, and their previous number had been reassigned.... :p

Or they switched for a testimonial match and decided to keep the new one. (Dema switched from #6 to #21 last year for the Harkes testimonial)

In general, the younger/newer players who got crappy numbers during their first year sometimes like to change to a more standard number, but sometimes they like the higher numbers. I wouldn't expect more than 2 players to change.

If you see alot of a high-numbered players jerseys at the equipment sale, either they are changing numbers, or have been traded...

Only one I can think of was Bobby going from #30 to #15. Not sure what number Gros wore in college but he is the only one I can think of who may change numbers.

I think they should all have fractions.

The team used to give numbers in the 30's to young/developmental players. If they stuck around, then they would move down.

Actually, Namoff started out as 26, took #12 when it became available....then either gave it to Petke, or his #12 stuff got lost in his Richmond/DC shuffle and he reclaimed #26.

I say they follow Moreno's lead and wear higher numbers... from 70-98 :D

PS: I know why Moreno is wearing 99, so don't go starting getting all nerdy on me.

The world would stop spinning, then reverse its course before Jaime wears the number 10.

I hate high jersey numbers. They suck-diddly-******. Even Jaime should change his 99. I know, I know...go ahead and give me hell. I can take it.

I have to admit, I wasn't crazy about Jaime wearing the #99 at first, but since the golden boy Freddy has Jaime's old number, Jaime picked the next best thing. I like the #99. I'd love to see him in the #10, but he would never take that number. Speaking of the #10? I wonder WHO will be the next DCU player to wear it? Hmmmm???????

I would guess Gomez if we pick him up full time, or if KP wants to hold it until the testimonial game, I guess our next big acquisition in 2007 :)
