Last year, Pablo Maurer tweeted out that MLS was going to have a new anthem in 2020.

Today, he tweeted out that film score composer Hans Zimmer has written the new anthem.

I, for one, am highly pleased by this news. Inject that piece directly into my veins!

    Something Gladiator-esque works for me.

Good. And MNT might use Ramin Djawadi. In particular this one

I've always wished that there was more Two Steps From Hell used in this league's pieces.

I'm pretty sure I've heard an EPL team come out to one of their pieces like this.

This implies that MLS has an "old anthem" that this stirring composition will be replacing. Really? If so, I was totally unaware.

    Not sure if serious.

Today of course I hear one used in the NBC promo for the Liverpool game.

It would be very hard for the new one not to be an improvement.

    Appropriate theme for villainous types.

Do you never notice the music that plays when teams walk onto the pitch before the opening kickoff?

Kind of. I just wanted to make sure that was the music they’re referring to, where it goes

TAAA TA TA DA TAAAA DOOO DO DOO

I actually think the current one is quite good. Looking forward to a Zimmer piece, though.

    Something more mellow I think....

It dropped today! I like it, but I'm not sure I like it as walk-out music. It definitely doesn't get stuck in your head, either. I've listened to it like five times, and I can't recall the theme. No real melody.

I think my favorite part of that video is that the first clear look at the sheet music shows you... 19 measures of rest (but one of the measures has a different time signature!).

    ...

And then two notes and more resting.

And the blurry music before that is just a million repetitions of triplets.

    Meh.

Frankly, I prefer the original MLS Processional Anthem. It was more stately. Zimmer's new composition strikes me as having been lifted from the score to a third-rate DC Entertainment film... say, Arm-Fall-Off-Boy: The Movie.

I like it better than the old one, so that's an improvement from my point of view. *shrugs*

It is certainly a driving theme. Not as panoramic as the UCL theme song, but definitely a lot of energy. I agree it isn't really a walk out theme, unless the players are going to start sprinting out, doing backflips, and maybe a few karate kicks for good measure? ;)

Throw out the little kids and get acrobats/stunt teams to hold their hands?

A lot of those professional acrobats are really short, so they could still outfit them in the XL t-shirts and they'd look the same.
