That'll fit perfectly on his lab! :D

I'm just joshing: it's "lap", as in putting the computer on your lap, as opposed to a desktop.

Specs seem pretty good (don't know about the graphics card - I don't play games).

    I'm guessing it's a DVD-RW drive?

it may play but can it write dvds.

if its used for office work or internet, it should be fine.

dont try and do too much gaming or you may not get good results. thats what PCs are for or the XPS Dell Laptops, which you shouldve gotten him instead. or an Alienware ;)

I'm sure he would be thrilled to be given any laptop and that looks fine if you've seen a reasonable price for it. There are probably quite a few good deals around right now so check out a few techie stores and speak to the sales people. If they try to confuse you with stuff you don't understand just walk away.

My $0.02 would be wait 2 weeks and look at the new Apple laptops. They're introducing a new line of consumer/student laptops that will be affordable, stylish and have all the features you could need. The added bonus is that you'll never need to worry about viruses or hackers which is a concern if you're not an expert with computers.
