In other words, fancy player/coach dugouts would've cost $305,000,000.

see, now Furnace is scary ... intimidating ... The Compass ... not so much.

plus The Furnace is a play on the weather which won't change (well it will only get worse) whereas my The Vault is a play on the stadium sponsor which might change.

so i would vote for The Furnace!

Meanwhile, you've got season tickets at Rio Tinto Stadium East.

    Widen the pitch.

At least you have grass, unlike the Holy Plastic Trinity of Hip Cascadia.

Until further notice, all three have turf within the natural variance you find on real grass...

So every field can be exactly the same? lame. Besides the pitch is wide enough, its just an easy talking point on BigSoccer.

Why is the width of the pitch something to worry about?

I think a lot of the talk in here started because there was talk about "how close the seats were to the field", when in reality due to the decreased dimensions, it's not that close to the edge of the field.

Thats meaningless. "ugh, I'm 2 yards further away from that last throw in!"

The fact is that the seats are a set distance from the center circle, the goals, the 6 and 18 yard boxes, etc no matter where they draw the sideline. The only dimension that gets you any closer to any real action on the field is the length of the field if you have goal line seats. Also with a narrower field you are also actually closer to action occuring on the opposite sideline. It makes no difference except in some really weird "Wow look, how close that chalk line is from me! Lets see if it does anything!" mental kind of way.

No action occurs near the touchline?

Screw all these stupid nicknames for the stadium.

    "Home" works for me.

Really disappointed that people haven't come up with a nickname similar to the Rag or Dick. It's staring you in the face....eh, maybe it's just me.

The problem isn't that the field is too small, the problem is that the stadium is too big. You could fit an 80 yard wide field in there, wider if you take out the concrete sidewalk around the perimeter.

I don't see anything more obvious than what has already been mentioned in the last few pages.

Anyway, regardless of what the Houston fans decide to call it, I'm personally going to call it "The Lost Orange".

    I see it too!

Turd Blossom -A pretty flower growing out of a steaming pile of cow dung

A very Texan term, used as a term of endearment by one of Houston's most famous citizens, that works on several levels:
    1. from a Houston perspective the stadium has blossomed on the blighted edge of downtown
    2. from a Dallas perspective it's a beautiful stadium ... in Houston
    3. from a San Jose perspective ...

Should be hot and steamy in there too.

Turd Blossom - it's just fun to say!

They should call it the Citrus Bowl or Orange Bowl or something with all that orange. Those haven't been used.

For the record, BBVA Compass Management says maximum width is 75 yards. I have this from the horses mouth.

Further, it looks to me like any wider would unsite the upper deck of action just inside the sideline.
