not really it appears there were two sections of group sales that didnt show. beyond that pretty packed
Only negative is the amount of time it took some people to get back into their seats. It took like 15 minutes after half time for the stadium to look full again. Quite a few people left before full time as well, I dunno what was up with that. I sincerely hope that there were a contingent of theatre goers (and that those people weren't season ticket holders or actual soccer fans) there tonight, because that grinds my gears. Otherwise, brilliant.
Great looking stadium. I love how compact it feels - even with the field painted thinner than necessary - the stands appear to be right on top of the action.
I've noticed that Dynamo doesn't use the whole field dimension .... it looks narrow on TV ( areas behind the goals & touchline on the side of LED billboard ) .
They did that because they still have a somewhat direct, aerial style. Someday when Davis and Ching are retired and they're playing on the ground, through the center of the pitch, they'll widen it.
You were right about the amount of time it took. The halls and concession lines were packed full. It took me about the whole time just moving about 5 sections over and back to my seat. I wasn't even in the concession lines.
Ching will be done after this year I think. Davis will be around for a couple years. But more than that, its Dom. He drafts players based on his system (see Bruin, Will). Once Dom is gone it will change...but that's gonna be a long while I think (unless he goes to Europe or an NT.)
well done Houston. I enjoyed the match and the stadium, if not the outcome. Only thing that spoiled the afternoon for me was a d-bag euro schmuck at the bar I was at railing on about American soccer...seriously you f'n c*nt, go home if you don't like it!
They absolutely did the right thing by building the total field to be able to properly accommodate the ideal 75x120 yards within-the-line playing field once the time finally comes. After all, while Dom may be there for a while, he won't be there forever. Heck, even Dom's "mentor" Frank Yallop thankfully eventually widened and lengthened his playing field to a near-ideal 74x115 yards. -G
Houston's stadium is a downtown stadium, and tailgating is a big deal here. That whole area for many blocks was tailgate-city and will be for every game.
Maybe Houston is the exception but with a downtown stadium it just doesn't sound like there'd be much opportunity for tailgating. I'll have to make a trip down sometime.
The East end of downtown is sparse and the stadium is hoping to revitalize the area a little. Plus Minute Maid (where the Astros play) parking lots have enough room for some good tailgating.
Did we ever get to see what the championship banners looked like? It was like the anti-wardrobe malfunction.
Spent most of the day yesterday recovering from one of the best days of my life!!! The beer went down like water in that heat on Sat. The stadium looked beautiful filled with a sea of orange from top to bottom. I actually had the privelage to sit next to a fan from the District of Columbia. He was excited about his team for the first 20 minutes, but then realized after endless heckling that he and his team were in a no win situation. He and his wife took it well
They showed them after finally cutting away from the people struggling to get tape off. The Perry Kitchen injury was probably the final nail.
The seats didn't look broken, but the back of the benches sure as hell was. I was hoping we'd get just bleachers, with no backs, but sadly we did get them. Surprise surprise, after one game, some of them broke. A few of us were thinking that they probably came that way from the manufacturer.
