My nomination for our new theme song:
"Down In It" by Nine Inch Nails. It just sums up the past four years for me.

My offering for the "DC United Anthology Vol. II: 2000-2003, the lean years"

Pretty F’ed Up by The Supersuckers

she's got a man on the side
    yeah, she's with him today
    and i probably won't die
but it sure feels that way
and i used to be strong
    i used to be tough
and she used to be pretty
but now she's pretty f’ed up

    chorus
    aww, pretty f’ed up
    yeah, pretty f’ed up
aww, she used to be pretty
but now she's pretty f’ed up

    now i know people change
    and sometimes that's good
    but some people don't
    when maybe they should
    right now that don't help
    i might just throw up
cause it sure does feel shetty
when things just get pretty f’ed up

    chorus

    now a long time ago
i made her feel this way
    and i begged her forgiveness
yeah, i begged her to stay
and she said that she loved me
    it made me feel good
yeah, it made me feel giddy
now i feel pretty f’ed up

    chorus

    chorus

aww, she used to be pretty
but now she's pretty f’ed up

    pretty f’ed up
    oh, pretty f’ed up

Good One! [The Buzzcocks have a treasure trove of United-appropriate songs]

    ------------------------

    Something's Gone Wrong Again

    Tried to find my sock
    No good it's lost
    Something's gone wrong again
    Need a shave
Cut myself need a new blade
    Something's gone wrong again
And again and again and again again and
    Something's gone wrong again
    Something's gone wrong again

    Tried to fry an egg
    Broke the yolk no joke
    Something's gone wrong again
Look at my watch just to tell the time
But the hand's come off mine
    Something's gone wrong again
    Something's gone wrong again
And again and again and again again and
    Something's gone wrong again
    Something's gone wrong again

Nothing ever happens to people like us
    'Cept we miss the bus
    Something goes wrong again
Need a smoke use my last 50p
    But the machine is broke
    Something's gone wrong again
    Something goes wrong again
And again and again and again again and
    Something goes wrong again
    Something goes wrong again

    [Solo]

    Something goes wrong again
And again and again and again again and
    Something goes wrong again
    Something goes wrong again

Nothing ever happens to people like us
    'Cept we miss the bus
    Something goes wrong again
Need a smoke use my last 50p
    But the machine is broke
    Something goes wrong again
    Something goes wrong again
And again and again and again again and
    Something goes wrong again
    Something goes wrong again

Turn up early in time for our date
But then you turn up late
    Something goes wrong again
Need a drink go to the pub
    But the bugger's shut
    Something goes wrong again
    Something goes wrong again
And again and again and again again and
    Something goes wrong again
    Ah something goes wrong again
    Something goes wrong again
    Something goes wrong again

Perchance how does Crawling by Linkon Park fit into your post-MLS Cup Metroscum conspiracy?

While we're on the subject of NIN (who I love, BTW), I think a more appropriate selection as it pertains to DCU would be "The Wretched".

And yes, N*Synkin Park IS A BOY BAND.

Here's Linkin Park in an earlier incarnation, before the record label gave them a "harder" image:

The words don't really apply, but somehow the theme song from Gilligan's Island seems strangely appropriate for this team.

All this tag-line talk of Muete or Gloria got me thinking about an interesting (at least to me) chant opportunity using the moldy oldy Gloria:

    SEs could start:
Gee, ell, oh, are, eye, a

    Barra responds:
    GLOH-REE-AH!

Repeat a couple of times and then 'medley' into another song like La Barra Brava, or Nowak's Army.

    Any takers?

Guys, I know this is going to sound corny, but I'm really serious about this.

The definitive "You'll Never Walk Alone"-type song for DC United should be...

    (...wait for it...)

    Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird."

Think about it. It has a touch of the South, a touch of majesty, and a touch of longing. And essentially it's a drinking song, which will be perfect as the Nest sings it at full volume with about five minutes to go til the end of the game. And not only that, but it also references a bird, which just happens to be a big part of United's logo.

Here are the lyrics (submitted for your approval):

    ============

    FREE BIRD by
    Lynyrd Skynyrd

    If I leave here tomorrow
    would you still remember me
For I must be travelling on now
there's too many places I gotta see

And if I stay here with you girl
things just wouldn't be the same
For I'm as free as a bird now
and this bird you cannot change
and the bird you cannot change
and the bird you cannot change
    Lord knows I can't change

Bye bye it's been sweet love
though this feeling I can't change
Please don't take it so badly
    Lord knows I must play

And if I stay here with you girl
things just couldn't be the same
For I'm as free as a bird now
and this bird you cannot change
and the bird you cannot change
and the bird you cannot change
    Lord knows I can't change

You will now be jailed for not less than 30 days.

For Washington DC sports teams in general we could have

    "Loser" by Beck

btw, "...and this bird you cannot change." The past few seasons are something I would WANT to change...

    the clash

I think 'Rudie Can't fail" would be perfect:

    Rudie Can't Fail Lyrics

    (Strummer/Jones)

Sing, Michael, sing-on the route of the 19 Bus
    Hear them sayin'
How you get a rude and a reckless?
Don't you be so crude and a feckless
You been drinking brew for breakfast
    Rudie can't fail

    So we reply
I know that my life make you nervous
But I tell you that I can't live in service
Like the doctor who was born for a purpose***
    Rudie can't fail

I WENT TO THE MARKET TO REALISE MY SOUL
'CAUSE WHAT I NEED I JUST DON'T HAVE
FIRST THEY CURSE, THEN THEY PRESS ME TILL I HURT
    WE SAY RUDIE CAN'T FAIL

    We hear them sayin'
Now first you must cure your temper
Then you find a job in the paper
You need someone for a saviour
    Oh, Rudie can't fail

    We reply
Now we get a rude and a reckless
We been seen lookin' cool an' a speckless
We been drinking brew for breakfast
    So Rudie can't fail

    Okay!
So where you wanna go today?
    Hey boss man!
    You're looking pretty smart
    In your chicken skin suit

    You think you're pretty hot
    In your pork pie hat
    But...Rudie can't fail
    Look out, look out...
    Sky juice!...10 cents a bottle!

And as much as I think Linkin' Park writes lyrics that borderline on retarded, they are not a boy band.

Perhaps a decent set list to be played over the rfk pa in case of another dismal season. Each of us can nominate a song lasting approx 3 minutes or so each and we will pick the top thirty or so. This will garuntee that at least there will be entertaining (if not good) music with our beers.

    I'll start the nominations:
    [Chairperson Voice Over]
The honorable delegate from Centerville, VA nominates the song "Run for the Hills" performed by Iron Maiden.

That's a good one, and it will transition well when we need to start singing "London Calling" for Bobby about mid-season. :)

    Too Young

    Too Young
    Nat King Cole

They try to tell us we're too young
Too young to really be in love
They say that love's a word
    A word we've only heard
But can't begin to know the meaning of

And yet we're not too young to know
This love will last though years may go
And then some day they may recall
We were not too young at all

And yet we're not too young to know
This love will last though years may go
And then some day they may recall
We were not too young at all

    Seems to fit this year
