After only two games (17th with 0 pts and 1-8 goals) St Pauli fired coach Dietmar Demuth. At the moment assistant coach Joachim Philipkowski is doing the job, but probably they will present someone else in the next days. They also intend on buying some new players. Probably the coaching change is not too good for Gibbs as Demuth relied on him also in bad times last season. Whether Gibbs gets the same trust of a new coach is of course completely open.

Wow--they pulled the trigger on Demuth really fast.

How has been Gibbs been playing so far? I know he started to progress as the year went along last year, and I'd hate to see him hit the bench, while he's still improving.

ps - What's up with your title, Buff? Did you lose a bet? ;)

    1. He's hurt right now--played in the first game, out for the second.

    2. First half is the site's censors playing around, second half is an inside joke.

You have to read Big Soccer very carefully to get that one, methinks. :)

this could spell trouble for young gibbs. demuth was very patient with Gibbs' development. this paid off when he played well (which was a couple times), and didn't do him any favors when he played poorly (which was more often than anyone would have liked). we'll see if the successor is as patient, especially if st. pauli want to make a push for the 1st BL.

Well, he constantly improved during the last season. In the first game of this season he was bad as any other St Pauli player and we've got to see how he develops. St Pauli surely is no team that under normal circumstances is a candidate for promoting again.

The worst thing that could happen to Gibbs is if St Pauli hires an old coach who trusts in old players. This weekend the assistant coach will be responsible (Gibbs probably still injured), next week they want to introduce the new coach.

St Pauli confessed again to wait until next week before deciding on a new coach. They announced to have three in a closer choice. One of these three names is known - it is Ingo Peter, currently coach of John van Buskirk and Eric Lukin in Siegen.

Could we see either of those two Americans making a move along with the coach, assuming he gets the St. Pauli job?

Dunno, transfer list closes soon. Some coaches like to take players with them, some got a bad conscience - especially as Siegen hardly could react now and get a new player. Lukin surely needs more experience first, but I can assume that van Buskirk and Peter got a good relationship as they are already spending some years together. Van Buskirk is someone with good goal instinct - he might also have some goals in D2; that's indeed one of St Pauli's trouble zones, but as I said in another thread they just bought Chinese Chen Yang for the forward position.

    (R) implied below..........

Looks like they are really dire when Gibbs is not on the pitch.Must be hard for the supporters.

  14. Ingo Peter ex of der Schting of Chicago. Good to see his name come up again. Maybe this explains multiple Yanks from Illinois on Siegen.

True. Although they're pretty dire with him on the pitch, too.

St Pauli President Reenald Koch stated in an interview that Ingo Peter is the most probable solution. One of the other two candidates also was heard between the lines: Uwe Erkenbrecher, currently D3 North at SC Paderborn; Erkenbrecher's pro's are the bigger experience in D2, but OTOH he never really was successful there. IIRC Peter was D2 coach many, many years ago (Remscheid), but is now since about seven years in Siegen; his plus is the experience to reach top performances with a small budget.

The search for a new coach is getting much more difficult than expected. Favourite candidate Ingo Peter doesn't seem to be interested in taking over the Kiez-club anymore. After the 0-6 disaster in Lübeck, Peter is distancing: "On Tuesday the preparation for the DFB-cup game against Oberhausen are starting for me", says Ingo Peter of Sportfreunde Siegen, "before nothing will happen regarding my person".

On Tuesday evening there will be a basic talk about the future of club and coach in Siegen. "We started a way that's worth to be continued", said the 50 year old, "I am employee of the club and will listen to what the officials tell me".

No good signs for St Pauli GM Franz Gerber. Lots of courage and ability to suffer is needed of a new coach - with decent payment and no hope to get further players.

Uwe Erkenbrecher is still a topic, also Bernd Krauss who often failed. Signing an unemployed coach like ex-Unterhaching coach Lorenz-Günther Köstner is not to be expected. "He's an interesting man, but we're only having 150 K for a coach".

On Wednesday St Pauli has the next chance to make themselves ridiculous in the cup competition at D4 team Tennis Borussia Berlin.

Even the last plus of the team seems to seek the distance: the fans, whocan't identify with the players anymore.
