Some good match-ups for a Tuesday night. Notre Dame - Michigan, free stream here: http://watchnd.tv/#!/games/1692293 Virginia - George Mason Syracuse - UConn Virginia and Syracuse have both opened their ACC campaigns 0-2, so they'll be eager to right the ship. And Mason is a surprising 4-0-1, so they should go into Charlottesville with plenty of confidence.
Free video from Big South Conference for UNC @ Campbell http://www.bigsouthsports.com/live/5884?SPSID=667873&SPID=12969&DB_LANG=C&SITE=UNC&DB_OEM_ID=3350
Xavier, which a year ago made some noise in the NCAA Tournament, is headed to OT 1-1 with D-II Cedarville. Also in overtime in the same state are Ohio State and Wright State; the Buckeyes have been down a man since the 69th. EDIT: both these games ended in draws.
OT for UNC (SHOCKING I KNOW!!) at Campbell 0-0. Both teams had a player sent off for a scuffle near the end of the game. McCrary for UNC got the red and will have to miss game @ VaTech this weekend.
Raby George scores for UNC 1-0 at Campbell in OT. UNC is now 3-0-2 on the year, and 2-0-2 in OT games on the season.
Other ACC scores: Duke beats Davidson 3-2 in OT Elon beats Wake Forest 1-0 Clemson beats UNCG 2-0 Syracuse beats UConn 1-0 VaTech beats High Point 5-2 Notre Dame beats Michigan 3-0
Notre Dame's soccer team is able to do what it's football team couldn't: beat Michigan. The Irish got goals from Harrison Shipp, Evan Panken and Bad, Bad, Leon Brown. It's early, but Notre Dame's attack is much more balanced this year and that might serve them well down the stretch.
That's a nice win for 'Cuse and a nice scalp for the conference, too. Elon has been giving ACC teams fits for a couple of years now. That coach is doing a nice job.
Pete Caringi was held to just an assist for the second straight game but UMBC improved to 6-0-0 with a 3-2 intrastate win over Navy in OT.
Alex Bono with five saves, Andre Blake with none. Also, congratulations to Delaware for posting another win. Their formula for success this year is to start 4 guys from Spain, 1 each from Germany, England, and Ghana, and 0 from within a hundred miles of Delaware. Classy.
Alex Halis, a freshman from Ontario, had the goal, his fourth of the young season. That'll put him in the Freshman of the Year conversation.
Halis is from Sigma FC, the same Ontario club as two other prominent freshman forwards, Cyle Larin of UConn and Mark Wadid of Penn St. Wadid also scored a game-winning goal tonight, as the Nittany Lions beat Robert Morris 1-0.
Brody Huitema from the Vancouver Whitecaps scored 2 goals for Duke tonight. As I argued last year with one poster on here, there are more Canadians making an impact with good NCAA programs than ever. The trend is only going to accelerate. It's too bad some of Montreal Impact kids' first language isn't English for schooling purposes or there would be more.
It's better than most good Canadian players quitting at 18... I won't knock the NCAA. It's not perfect, but it provides another avenue to the Pros.
New Hampshire 4 - 0 Rhode Island UNH is putting together a good season that's being overshadowed by the work UMBC is putting in.
It is also a heck of a lot better than signing a pro contract and failing to get any playing time because you are not yet developed enough to be of any benefit to the team.
#7 St. John's at #5 Creighton on Saturday.. Pretty big game for both teams! Creighton's first ever match in the Big East vs. a Big East power!
And you can.... for $5.00!!! http://www.gocreighton.com/liveEvents/liveEvents.dbml?SPID=2518&db_oem_id=1000
Penn 0 - 3 Georgetown. The one Twitter recap I saw on this game ended with the words..."and, it wasn't even that close".
