Omar Mata chips a ball into the bending run of Cristian Mata who smashes it in the back of the net in the 54th minute... Tulsa 1, SIUE 0 ...in the 60th minute, Christian Volesky's shot hits the post.
Cristian Mata plays a through ball to Kyle Cumings who tucks it away to give Tulsa a 2-0 lead over SIUE with 4 mins left.
Cornell 2 - Hartwick 1 (2OT) Hartwick had the early lead, and Cornell leveled in the 2nd half. Hartwick had the better opportunities in the OT, but Cornell pounced when HC's GK came to the right edge of the box to make a tackle, missed it, and Cornell put it in to win the game and Oneonta's Mayor's Cup (apparently the longest running tournament in the US).
Maryland's defense is really struggling. The Terps allow three goals in the final 13 minutes as Maryland blows a 2-0 lead and loses to VCU 3-2.
What a comeback (Things looked so bleak from us early into the season from the exhibition and first games) Glory Glory to Ram Nation Glory Glory to Ram Nation Glory Glory to Ram Nation and Rams go Charging On!!
San Francisco 2-1 over SJSU in thick fog. After USF's late winner, a big SJSU defender (Beauchamp) committed a stupid foul to get sent off.
CSU Bakersfield 2-0 at UC Davis Bakersfield got the benefit of a lucky bounce of the referee to set up the run to their first goal, and later scored a second goal down the left side and across to an open man. Davis can't catch a break - they outshot their opponent 26- 16 (84-42 overall this season, but outscored 1-5), but couldn't even convert a PK.
Interesting comment by Head Coach Seth Roland after FDU win against Princeton: "I thought we put in a very professional, focused and determined effort" Given that 9 of the 13 players in game for FDU were foreign students, I would agree they showed a professional effort, particularly in their physicality, which was not unexpected given the assigned ref.
I was able to catch most of the second half and over-time. I recall them saying Ciccarelli was hurt last year. He was one of the few players that really stood out. I think both these teams are filled with solid players, really no different than the 4 west coast schools I've seen this year. I felt it was pretty wide open this year, and so far it seems to be the case. Will be interesting to see how Maryland, Washington, Cal and some others do this week.
